Hobbs New Mexico June 4 Shell A-1 two miles northwest of New Hobbs surprised drillers Monday night at nine o'clock and came in a hundred feet higher than expected. It blew 30,000,000 feet of gas with oil spray and by Tuesday morning was 50,000,000 feet of gas with 2,500 barrels of oil. The well was shut off Tuesday afternoon and brought under control as deeper drilling into pay sand is planned. The find suggests a highly oil bearing structure one mile southeast from the Humble 10,000 barrel well. Geologists from major companies predict a large field if ensuing wells perform.
Miss Katrina Von Televox sister of Herbert Von Televox of Westinghouse visited Alamogordo Tuesday for two performances at the Methodist church basement. A Westinghouse team including Mr. Milles and Mr. Barnett showcased the mechanical lady turning on a search light iron fan and electric range. prizes were awarded to the Sheltons daughter for an electric iron and to F C Nagle for a floor lamp.
Miss Anna Latham reports possession of an 1842 Baptist church book from Missouri later taken to Texas in 1854. In 1881 the same Missouri members formed Macedonia Church in Liano County. Latham authored a history published in Frontier Times of Bandera Texas by J Marvin Hunter.
Baltimore June 9 Widespread interest was aroused by Dr J A Pfeiffer associate of the University of Maryland medical school and noted bacteriologist who announced in a paper before the Maryland Biological Society that he found the cause of the common cold and a vaccine that may cure and prevent it He says the disease is caused by a micrococcus named micrococcus coryza and that immunity could last from one to three years.
Roswell New Mexico June 9 Old camp ers and new campers from this side of the state begin to anticipate camp. The camp will be ready for one hundred fifty Scouts with a diverse program to suit each boy. On July 10 the grand march to We-hin-ah-pay will take place.
Aunt Rina Latham returns from El Paso where she attended the marriage of Miss Lucille Rokahr to Mr Homan Johnson at First Baptist Church. Stew C V Neal officiated. Bride is granddaughter of J W Latham. grandfather Charles Rokabr, famed cowboy boot maker, sang at the ceremony. Also noted a Model T Ford for sale at Miller Buick Garage.

A preliminary movement in Lovington New Mexico aims to split Lea county into three counties. Lovington would keep the county seat while Hobbs and Tatum would serve as seats for the southern and northern sections. The area spans about 150 miles by 40 miles and the drive garners support from townsite companies seeking seats. A separate notice offers a used trunk for sale near Cunningham residence.
