A gravel truck traveling south on highway 12 2 miles south of Akron at 2 10 p m spilled gravel when its front hatch opened hitting James Waite s 1971 Pontiac Ventura causing 900 in damage. Waite 48 Le Mars was driving the other car. The truck was driven by Rodney D Krahmer Emerson Nebraska.
The four performance run of John Steinbeck's Of Mice and Men drew excellent attendance. Richard Jacobs earned wide praise for direction while Colin Coyle as George and Lennie's portrayal by Lennie. Keith Knapp as Candy, Debbie Knecht as Curly's wife, and others supplied strong performances. The production impressed locals despite some concern over language and Jacobs censored stronger lines to avoid offense.

Township directors for Farm Bureau were ratified at the annual meeting held September 10 at the Le Mars Junior high school auditorium. Plymouth county annual meeting on September 10 offered a door prize drawing for attendees. Five pound canned hams were the prizes. Winners included Mrs. Burton Eisma of Merrill, Claire Allen of Akron, and Fred Lucken of Akron.

Pennsylvanian visitors visit Fickbohm and Maynard as Union Creek centennial guests. Lester Witt from Los Angeles visited Calkins and Windahl homes before returning home. Develon of Torrance visited Akron residents.
