Akron residents are invited to an open house at the Akron Public Library this Sunday from 2 to 5 p.m. hosted by library board members and librarians with special invitations for former board and staff. The Akron Jr. Achievers held a regular meeting at Lori Heeren's house on September 9. Beth Schroeder led the pledge, roll call referenced a fair experience, and treasurer reports showed 8.22 dollars cash and 83.66 in the bank. New business included Awards Night on November 23 with an October record-book deadline, National 4-H Week October 6 to 12, and a Heritage Tour review by Lori Heeren and Theresa Loetz. Krista Heeren, a new member, demonstrated breading. Lunch followed.
Union County Farm Bureau held its monthly executive meeting at the REA courtesy room on September 23 in Elk Point. Reports were given on memberships, finances, and upcoming events including a 1975 drive aiming for 224 members, with 36 new members needed. Delegates to the state convention at Spearfish November 17–19 and alternates were named, plus plans for a Union County 4-H awards event and a December banquet in Elk Point. The meeting ended with a lunch served by Mr. and Mrs. Marvin Johnson.
