Fall Weather Brings Comforts and Harvest News

Shorty notes fall is here with brisk mornings and evenings prompting extra blankets and furnace thoughts. Farmers report an early, good corn and bean harvest with many fields already gathered. Tom Ross opens Tom's Repair Service in Akron from home, offering appliance, A C, refrigeration, and small repairs. Post cereal boxtops fund school equipment including balance bars, side horses, and a volleyball. Jerry Smith writes football stories. a new tape recorder works well while Vel’s city council taping had issues. Two city council seats up for election. nomination papers due by Sept 29.

Akron and Iowa area families visit in many homes

Darlene Erickson, patient in a Denver hospital, is wished well by Akron friends as letters and greetings travel from 1790 Unita Denver. Nearby, Mr and Mrs Viggo Henriksen return from California with son Gary. Akron residents Mr and Mrs James Gabel visit Iowa City and North Tonawanda with relatives. George Wenicker of Wiesbaden visits their daughter, plus many others in North Tonawanda and Virginia Beach. Sgt. Robert A Beek, Akron Iowa, joins 12,000 U.S. troops in Reforger 77, with airlift to Europe and pre positioned gear in Germany and the Netherlands. The operation includes 37000 tons moved by sealift ships, testing mobilization and deployment. Beek, 1974 recruit, a clerk with the 1st infantry division, is a 1973 Akron high school graduate. his wife Kathleen stays in Junction City, Kansas.

Rainbow installation marks 32nd for unit 172

Ellen Jeiken led the Rainbow worthy advisor installation on Sept. 10 with 100 guests present. The theme centered on honor stations religion and nature, colors orange and yellow. Line officers installed include Cindy Klemme as worthy associate advisor, Kathy Klemme charity, Lee Ann Van Beek hope, Susan Lucken faith, Julie Breitbarth as advisor, and Tom Kenny Jr. Rainbow Dad. Fall events include a carwash on Oct. 1 and rummage sale on Nov. 5 open to the public. membership is open to girls aged 12 to 20 to elevate girlhood daily.

Miller Heeren vows unite Akron couple in 1977 wedding

Lori Heeren and Greg Heeren, both of Akron, were married on August 6 1977 at Immanuel Lutheran church Akron. Rev David Roy officiated a blue carnation adorned ceremony followed by a church basement reception. The bride, a Akron Community High School Nettleton College graduate, works at Akron Medical Clinic. The groom, also an Akron Community High School graduate, is a farmer. They plan a Black Hills wedding trip and reside in rural Akron.

Marcus meeting site of NW regional library

The Northwest Regional Library board of trustees will hold its regular meeting on Wednesday September 21 at the Marcus public library starting at 1 p.m. The meeting is open to the public.
