Sivert Sommervold, 61, a prominent Union county farmer from Sioux Valley township, died Saturday at a Yankton hospital after a short illness. Born September 15, 1900, in Emmett township, he moved to Sioux Valley in 1903, attended Garland school, and was baptized in Roseni Lutheran Church. Survivors include two sisters, Mrs. Edwin L. Johnson and Mrs. Howard Nygard, with several nieces and nephews. Funeral services were held today at Roseni Lutheran Church near Beresford, with burial in the church cemetery.

John D. Byrant of Route 1 Akron Iowa won second prize of 639 in the vocational agriculture division of the 15 000 arc welding competition for high school students nationwide. Bryant attended LeMars Community High School where F W Aspedon is principal and Lloyd Schultz shop instructor. His entry featured interlocking multi unit metal crates that separate for moving and storage and sterilization. Bryant estimates each crate cost about 31 50 dollars.
