Akron Red Raiders Dominate Central Sophomores 27 to 0
Akron High School Red Raiders opened the season with a 27 to 0 victory over Sioux City Central High Sophomores on their home field. Key moments included LeRoy Carlson's 13 yard punt return setting up the first score, Borchers passing to Matkin for a later touchdown, and a series of strong running drives by Borchers Gabel and Heeren. Central threat waned as Akron's defense forced fumbles and interceptions while reserves saw action late in the game.

Akron High Opens With Victory After Ten Game Rough Patch
Last Saturday night Akron High's Red Raiders ended a ten game defeat streak dating to late 1959 with a season opening win. Many players saw action in their first high school game as the squad showed desire for a successful season while coach efforts target smoother offense. The team prepares for Siouxland Conference action at George, Iowa, Friday September 22, facing a tougher test after George High’s 46 to 7 loss to West Sioux Hawarden-Ireton. The coaches aim to iron out ragged spots and sharpen all around play for Akron’s first conference win.
