Cornelis McShane said he knew victim Lee Zook and claimed Barker, jailed for the murder, attempted to rob him north of Northville while on a freight train. McShane said Barker shared his tobacco and whisky, and he identified Barker at the jail to testify at the next circuit court term.

Gyrus Watts, 61, long time judge of a coin at Sioux Walls and pioneer Dakota resident, died at his Minnehaha County home Saturday morning from liver cancer. He was located at Yankton in 1869 and moved to Sioux Falls in 1870.
Sheriff Gunderson arrested Peter Carlson in Vermillion upon a Wakonda complaint for selling liquor contrary to law. Carlson had operated a Wakonda farm since the Wakonda license failed in July.
