Westfield Write Ups Show Corn Roast and Local Moves

A corn roast at Mr and Mrs Allie Banks home drew local residents including Mrs Mary Oleson Mrs Mulfinger and new coach along with families and children. Guild representatives attended the Catholic Women convention in Rock Valley while Arch Lilly attended Masons and Stars in Akron. Randall Lilly heads to Ft Leonard Wood for six months training. Families visit West Bend to see the Grotto and Paul Lilly from Boone visits after business in Denison and Sioux City. Last year seniors list where several pursue work college and marriage across Akron Sioux City and surrounding areas.

Former Local Man Walter Baldwin Dies After Illness

Walter M. Baldwin of Sioux City a former Akron resident died in a city hospital Sunday September 11 after a long illness aged nearly 67. Born August 21 1893 at Adaville he was the son of J M and Mrs Baldwin farmed near Akron In He married Marita Eas ton on June 19 1918 at Akron and moved to Sioux City in 1927. He was a machine operator for Albertson Co until retirement last April a World War I veteran and member of the First Church of the Nazarene Survivors include his widow two daughters Lillian Phipps Tulsa Oklahoma and Dorothy Bremmers Sioux City three brothers Oscar Akron Lloyd Merrill Ta and Clarence South Sioux City a sister Allarta Waddle Portland Ore four grandchildren and six great grandchildren Funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon at the First Church of the Nazarine in Sioux City with Rev Oren Baker officiating Burial followed at Memorial Park cemetery

U S Soil Conservation Service report by LaVern M Feusner outlines two weeks of progress in Plymouth County including 2.9 miles of level terraces for Eldon Bryant Johnson township 8.1 miles for Joe Johnson and 4.0 acres of waterways for Don Lucken in Johnson township. Additional terrace work 1.3 miles for Sylvester Pack Fredonia township and 0.6 and 0.5 miles of basin terraces for Martin and Banks in Westfield Hancock townships. Contour line work totaling thirty acres laid for Phil Beaubien in Westfield township and terraces staked for multiple landowners across Perry Lincoln Plymouth Hungerford Washington Sioux and Westfield townships.

Death summons longtime Akron resident Frank Friedrich

An unexpected illness caused the death of Frank Friedrich a longtime resident of the Akron vicinity on Saturday Sept 10 at a Hawarden nursing home where he had lived the past two years at nearly 78. He was born Oct 26 1882 in Hanover Ind and came to Plymouth county in 1886 later living in Preston township and Akron vicinity before moving to Hawarden. He was a retired farm laborer and survived by three step brothers Edward Herman and Henry Friedrich all of rural Akron. He was preceded in death by his stepfather and mother Anna Riegerts. Funeral services were held Tuesday at St John s Lutheran church Preston Township with Rev Conrad Guetzlaff officiating burial followed in the church cemetery.

Little International Livestock Show At Iowa State U
