Westfield News Votes Elect Belmer Banks and Cyrus Knapp

Belmer Banks and Cyrus Knapp were elected to the Westfield school board at Monday’s election. The weekly roster notes visits by local families, church group meetings, and community events including Harvest Supper plans and Tuesday Club activities. Local residents travel to see relatives, attend reunions, and take part in church service preparations.

McGovern to Speak at Field Day in Beresford Sept 22

Senator George McGovern will be a guest speaker at the Southeast South Dakota Experiment Farm Field Day on Friday September 22 at the Beresford experiment farm five miles west or three miles south. Opening at 10:00 am the program will cover swine housing research high moisture corn and corn silage for beef finishing fertilizing methods and tiering in corn production. After a noon lunch McGovern will speak with Duane Acker Experiment Station Director present. Afternoon sessions address spacing plant populations varieties weed control in corn sorghum and soybeans with reports on corn footworm control and forage production. A new $250000 infirmary will be consecrated September 21 at Methodist Manor Storm Lake Iowa with Bishop James Thomas officiating. The one story Y shaped addition extends from the home’s yeast corner and could expand to twice its size. construction began last fall and first patients moved in this month.

Conserving Soil and Water on Slopes

C K Dahlgren of the Soil Conservation Service outlines key practices for soil and water conservation on sloped land. Grass waterways prevent runoff from terraces and contour farming, with well sodded waterways needed for extreme conditions. Plan ahead for fall seeding, shape crooked waterways if eroded, and use farm equipment where possible. An engineering survey by SCS helps determine needs, with cost share via the Tri-Cultural Conservation Program.

Eye production and egg prices in Iowa outlook 1967-68

Gene Futrell of Iowa State University predicts continued higher eye production this year and into early 1968 due to larger laying flocks and improved output. Prices for Grade A large eggs should stay below last year through September-December with mild gains later, aided by lower feed costs. overall returns to producers expected to stay modest until mid-1968.

Akron Bank Founded In First Trust And Savings Bank

Articles filed with the county auditor at LeMars announce the creation of a new Akron bank, the First Trust and Savings Bank, with directors including B. E. Mellen E. Meeting for stockmen who feed cattle in Alcester

A meeting for stockmen who feed cattle or will feed this winter is set for September 21 at 8 00 p m in the Alcester City Auditorium. Union County Agent Robert Osborne says the program will cover price and cattle supply outlook and feeding tips. Similar meetings have aided local producers in past years and the event is sponsored by Union County Livestock Improvement Association State Bank of Alcester and Cooperative Extension Service.
