Akron Iowa announces the engagement of Julie Ann Boetger to Jerome Haage. Julie is a 1974 Akron Community High School graduate, attended Western Iowa Tech, and works at Akron Hospital. Jerome, a 1973 Akron Community High School graduate, is a farmer. No wedding date set.
Snow vows spoken as Mary Snow and Randy Willms unite in marriage August 2 1975 at Wesley United Methodist Church Akron Rev Sherman L Tidball officiating. Bride is daughter of Mr and Mrs Wendell Snow and groom son of Mr and Mrs Henry Willms Akron. Miss Julie Boetger maid of honor April Snow flower girl Bill Harvey best man and Doug Milner ring bearer. Reception at the groom's parents home.
Catherine Lewison and David Held were married August 16, 1975, at Immanuel Lutheran Church Akron with Rev. David J. Roy officiating. The couple, from Akron and Hinton, hosted a reception for 170 guests and will reside in Sioux City after a Round Lake Minn wedding trip.
Akron TOPS 893 met Wednesday evening with Sue Croy in charge. Secretary and treasurer reports were approved. Best loser weights were three and two pounds respectively. The club enjoyed a club night at Akron park with a Hawarden TOPS group. Also noted were condolences for Herman Weyen and several local visits and social guests in nearby towns. Julia Easterlie celebrated her 100th birthday in Carbon County.
Rainbow girls and sponsors traveled to Sioux Falls on August 27 to bid farewell to Lyn Wang heading to the air force. They toured the zoo, met at the Holiday Inn for lunch, shopped downtown and at Western Mall, then watched Lyn depart from the airport. Upcoming events include Wendy’s last Worthy Advisor night on Sept 3, meetings Sept 6 with officer elections, Sept 7 Akron assembly installation of Lori Hansen, and a chicken dinner Sept 9 at the Masonic Temple with open invites to Rainbow girls and Eastern Star and Masonic lodge members.
Jeff Faber of Plymouth County extension led a July 21 canning and boiling water bath session at Mary Lou Correia’s home in Akron. A small group of local women attended to learn steam pressure and water bath methods, part of a new Iowa State University program coordinated by Lu Loetz and Mid-Sioux Opportunity Inc.
Visitors from multiple states joined family gatherings in Akron as Sioux Valley Extension club reschedules to September 8 at Margaret Stoutenberg’s home. Local seniors met at Akron Legion hall with 42 members and a guest for games and singing. next gathering set for September 15.
Lizzie Tindall and daughters shopped in Sioux City with Grace Feuerhelm and Phyllis Alen while cousins Marel Bennett and Verna Lewison received visits from H W Bogenrief. Nearby, Ursula Strobel hosted visits from Verna Lewison and Anna Meyer, and Diabetic cookies were made for residents. News slows during Labor Day weekend.
