Parent teacher conferences are planned for next week with three afternoon sessions. Basketball begins Friday November 5 at Hinton with two girls games. Family Night and supper occur Thursday November 4 at the Congregational church. DCCW ery workshop at St Mary's Remsen November 1 registration 1:00 am. Westfield School committee elected six new members led by Worth Banks as Chairman and John Yockey as Treasurer Secretary. Book Week starts November 17 at the Public Library with Civil War and American History works plus youth and children's selections. Library hours are 12:00 to 4:00 pm.
By Lyle R. Mackey and Harold VanHorn advise dairymen to compare hay costs with mixed dairy rations. A good ration can cost about 50 dollars per ton, and 2 pounds of average hay replace 1 pound of corn. If hay exceeds 25 dollars per ton, grain mixtures may be cheaper. For good hay, don’t pay over 33 dollars per ton. Grain can replace much of the hay or silage, preserving essential forage.
Weather cooperates as Soil Conservation Service crews report completed terraces on Lias Bros Westfield farm and others. Work includes parallels levels and basins on multiple farms with waterways shaped on several more. erosion control dam completed on Wm Vreeman farm and wetlands drainage on Lee Bride and Ethel Johnson farms, with technical assistance offered to area landowners.
Mrs. Joe Lambert thanks friends for cards and visits while in Akron hospital and after returning home. She thanks hospital staff and doctors for assistance and Pastor Roy for prayers and visits.

The State of Iowa probate notice announces the will and codicil of Adina Hultgren, date October 7, 1957, codicil February 15, 1963, admitted to probate. Kenneth Hultgren named executor. creditors must file claims with Akron district court within six months from the second publication. actions to set aside must be brought within one year.
A classroom column from Elk Point reports students working hard through fall topics. Lori Anderson is absent with chicken pox while readers explore pre-primer books, Fall science, and poems. The piece highlights party plans, art projects, and a Halloween event with parent volunteers and a principal visit.
Fourteen Plymouth county educators qualified for life memberships in the Iowa State Education Association under age and experience rules. Akron’s Irene Brooks and Doris Campbell were honored. Brooks has served since 1954 and Campbell for 20 years in special education, with Brooks 36 years in ISEA membership. On October 18 the FSA met and discussed missed meetings and unpaid dues.
Students at AHS vow to back their teams in victory or defeat and take pride in all school activities from band to football. They strive to keep the school pleasant, perform well academically, and uphold the school's high standing. Respect for faculty is constant as they provide the future through education. They should reflect well on Akron both at home and away, as AHS is what they make it.
Akron High School notes tell of a football loss to George Bluejays by 18 to 39 after three busloads of spectators traveled to the game. Kenny Milbrodt and the team opened scoring, Roger Meinen connected a TD pass to Denny Lias, and Scott Swift added the extra point. The Let Us Learn Club met at Mrs. Lincoln's home on Friday afternoon October 16 with eleven members present and several guests. The next gathering is scheduled for November 9 at Delmar Abraham's home in Elk Point.
Regular meeting of the Town Council discussed sidewalk repair and a possible site for a disposal plant. Minutes and reports were approved. Bills totaling shown were authorized for payment. meeting adjourned. Mayor Vinton G. Adams and Clerk R. D. Clark signed.
The Union County Farm Bureau held its annual meeting October 19 in the Elk Point auditorium. Reports by secretary treasurer and Women’s Chairman Mrs Harold Ballinga due to illness of Thelma Kolstad. Russell Hansen spoke on membership drive with an annual report by President Lincoln Tweet reviewing the year’s work including banquet picnic Achievement Days displays talent fund baking contest flower show school reorganization tax plan and farm bureau activities.
The meeting praised 4 H record book awards and Farm Bureau newsletter comments. Henry Knocken mus spoke on expanded insurance and mutual fund programs. A new Farm Bureau office will be built in Huron. Officers were elected: Lincoln Tweet president Milton Albin vice president Mrs Amos Bidem secretary Everett Peterson treasurer Thelma Kolstad women's chairperson and directors George King Wendall Leafsted J Wm Nystrom. Delegates to the Huron Farm Bureau Convention were Lincoln Tweet J Wm Nystrom and Thelma Kolstad. Robert Ofstehage presented the 1965 resolutions for discussion and vote. Lunch committee listed.
