Westfield write ups note visits of Mrs Flanagan and Miss Henning from Chicago, and a large St Catharine Guild meeting planning Thrift sale and lunches for election day. Local travel, marriages, dinners, Halloween party, and an Americana art exhibit show community activity at Community Hall and Yankton college events.
Special correspondence from Milnerville reports Arthur and Mrs. Maloney visiting California and other states after returning from a six week trip, Allan Luce arriving with relatives in San Diego, and Mrs. Ona Cowell aiding her mother Mrs. Chase in Sioux City. Mrs. Chase’s condition has improved but she cannot work. Local visitors include Mrs. May Fursee and Miss Violet Oemig. A Bethel Aid Society pillow is to be shown at a gathering, Catherine Parks visited her parents, Fred Yates will harvest elsewhere, road work on a bad route continues, and there is talk of straightening and raising a bridge to mitigate Broken Kettle floods. George Brown’s funeral ended the week.
Large crowd attended the funeral of a pioneer farmer laid to rest in Pleasant Valley cemetery at Adaville. The article notes his long farming career, local respect, and community ties in the Milnerville region.
Professor Smith of the Jefferson South Dakota high school was well received. A number of local high school students attend Jefferson high as Mr McNaughton drives a bus to and from there daily.
Mr and Mrs Albert Nutbrook were overnight visitors in the home of his uncle and aunt Mr and Mrs C A Hamilton Friday night and called on other relatives Friday.
