Red Cross Volunteers Assist War Veterans

Red Cross workers in chapters hospitals and on Army Navy Coast Guard and Marine posts aided 122355 active service men or veterans or their families during the past year. Personal help included letter writing shopping and recreational leadership while financial aid to dependents and help with pension disability pay hospitalization and discharge papers were also provided. The average monthly assistance totaled 18790 men.

Red Cross Nurses Aid Million Sick in 1937 38

Public health nurses for the Red Cross logged over one million visits to patients in mountain communities islands off the coast isolated swamps and crowded industrial areas. They inspected 659187 school children for health defects with local physicians and educated 58754 mothers and young girls in home hygiene and caregiving.
