Several Mrs. Nelson gatherings, church supper, and community events noted through October 16 with club meetings and thanks to Cloverette 4-H club for library gift.
The Farm Bureau and Farm Bureau Insurance Services sponsor an eight hour defensive driving course for motorists 16 and older with valid Iowa licenses. Instructors certified by the National Safety Council teach topics from accident preventability to interstate driving. A $2 materials fee is charged. inquiries to Mrs Virgil Ross or Mrs Alvard Banks.

Funeral services were held Friday October 10 at Trinity Lutheran church Hawarden officiated by Rev O F Pittack for Fred H Osterbuhr 88 who died Tuesday October 7 in a nursing home after a long illness He was born February 2 1881 in Grant township and farmed in Plymouth county later moving to Sioux County in 1944 He married Mary Fuken June 8 1905 She died July 1947 Survivors include two sons Otto Akron and Elmer Hawarden. two daughters Mrs Anna Pefferman Akron and Mrs Elmer Martha Popken Hudson SD. nine grandchildren. 18 great grandchildren. and a brother Otto Brunsville.
Linda Kay Williams born March 28 1949 in Akron Iowa to Forrest and Florence Williams grew up in Spink community and served as Sunday School teacher at Brule Creek Lutheran Church She graduated Akron High School 1967 attended St Luke’s Nursing Sioux City worked as secretary at Kota Division Vermillion for 10 years married Ronald Dreeszen July 5 1968 Funeral services held at Brule Creek Lutheran Church burial at adjoining cemetery Schroeder Funeral Home Akron handling arrangements Pallbearers listed
High team series saw Akron Lumber at 2300 with Arvins 2278 and E Z De Laundromat 2277. Individual leaders included Harvey Klemme 536 and Ivan Finzen 533 in series, Finzen 210 in game. Kerr Motor 2293 and Chatsworth Elev 838 led teams. Lawrence Maynard 563 and Ed Hartmann 531 topped individual games with Maynard at 206 and Boetger 201.
High games featured Phil Beaubien 244 Lawrence Maynard 235 Joe Wych 222 Betty Klemme 189 Lois Klemme 170. High series led by Lawrence Maynard 614 Phil Beaubien 606 Joe Wych 522 Lois Klemme 515 Penny Hartmann top game 171. Road Runners captured top team series 1201 and Red Raiders led in team game 454.
Tuesday league action featured Ray Ericson with a 592 three game series and Phil Beaubien at 574. Lloyd Willer rolled the high game of 232 and Floyd Waterbury 211, while Nielsens Service topped team series with 2610 and Dirks Motor Co. led team games with 916.
High three game series led by Jarold Van Donge 488 with Ron Schroeder 467 Neva Van Donge 458 and Millie Van Donge 429. Top games include Kerryn Heeren 185 Jarold Van Donge 177 Neva Van Donge 168 and 161 Kathy Joseph 160. Senators lead team totals with 1824 in series and 629 in a single game.
High 3 game series led by Joe Wych with 521 and Bob Frerichs 512. Top games include Gary Hartmann 209 and Don Neunacher 198. Farmers Co-op posted a 2534 team series and a 895 team game. Penny Hartmann bowled 201 with Lois Klemme at 191. Hartmann’s 523 for 3 games tops among individuals alongside Tunny Granstrom with 513.
Hi Ind games list Lawrence Maynard 222 Phil Beaubien 200 Jean Martin 180 Betty Klemme 176. Hi Ind series Phil Beaubien 585 Harvey Klemme 533 Betty Klemme 449 Jean Martin 461. Hi team game Jets 675. Hi team series Jets 1916.
Eunice Klemme rolled 184 and Lois Klemme 174 in a standout performance. The team total 512 pins featured Eunice adding a 484 series.
The Book and Thimble Club met October 7 at Carol Port's with thirteen members. New member Inez Little was introduced. Well wishes were extended to Bernice Dirks and Lois Nelson in hospital. Treasurer Gwen Jurgens presented the report, and Dorothy Finzen spoke on the Thrift Sale. Penny Bryant and Edith Baker reviewed the 8th District Convention and its resolutions. Daryl Siebens gave Federated News and discussed income tax exemptions. Program on Water and Air Pollution led by Carol Port. Next meeting October 21 at Gwen Jurgens' home. The Friendship and Service Club met October 9 1969 at Jan Boyd home with co host Jeanne Hinrichsen. Members shared arts and crafts interests and heard a Federation News Flash from Joy Dirks. District Convention attendees earned a Gold Star, a panel discussed Build now with Faith Love Understanding and Service, and an IFWC scholarship was announced. The club planned Get Well cards for Lois Nelson and Ruth Mitchell and noted thrift and bake sale proceeds added to the scholarship fund.
