Voter registration and absentee ballot guidance in Plymouth County

In Plymouth county Iowa, voters must be registered at least 25 days before an election and remain registered unless they move change name or fail to vote for four years. Registration help is available at the Akron city clerk Plymouth county auditor and election commissioner or from mobile registrar Harlan Klave. Absentee ballots require an application to the county auditor, voting in person with a notary present, and returning the ballot by election day.

Hawks Celebrate 40th Wedding Anniversary in Merrill

Mr and Mrs Alfred Hawks mark their 40th anniversary with a family dinner on October 10 hosted by their children at the home of Mr and Mrs Terry Gries in Merrill. They wed October 8 1936 at St Patrick s Catholic Church Akron. Harlan Klave from Trinity Lutheran Akron will attend the American Lutheran Church eighth general convention in Washington D C Oct 6 12. The gathering will host about 1000 delegates from 4813 congregations in 47 states at the National Cathedral and Shoreham Americana. A bicentennial manifesto and outreach focus will guide talks with potential comments from Carter and Ford.

Century Ill Leaders Scholarship opens for Akron seniors

Akron High School seniors may win local state and national awards for essays on America's future needs. One student can clinch a $10,000 top prize with nine finalists earning $500 scholarships. State winners travel to Williamsburg Virginia in March 1977 for seminars with leaders in education business and government. Deadline October 15 1976.

Local callers visit multiple area homes this week

Mr and Mrs Colin Collman and daughter Melanie were visitors in the Henry Collmann home last Saturday. Monday evening Mrs Greg Barinsky and sister Melanie Collmann called at their grandparents home. Mrs Clara Satthoff and brother Albert Frerichs were guests in the Gene Frerichs home last Sunday. Mrs Fanny McKee spent Tuesday visiting Mr and Mrs Guy Bakker at Fairview. Mrs McKee and sister Mrs Lizzie Anderson of Hawarden were in Le Mars on business Friday. Mr and Mrs Gary Moehlmann and family visited in Cherokee with her parents Mr and Mrs Hansen over the weekend. Mr and Mrs Charles Hendricks attended a family picnic at the Harley Small home in Leeds to celebrate five birthdays. Mr and Mrs Dennis Bultman and family visited Harold Dowling to help Matt celebrate his birthday. Mrs Evelyn Renken and Mrs Chuck Renken and baby had luncheon with Mr and Mrs Myron Coons at Ireton. This past week George Moehlmann hosted visitors including Mrs Jack Robb of Ann Arbor Michigan Mr and Mrs Harry Giffrow of Minneapolis and H Specht of Hawarden. Mrs George Moehlman daughter Edythe attended the funeral of Mrs Etta Meiners at Le Mars.

Akron high school marks its 39th homecoming selection in bicentennial year. Since 1937, 78 youths have worn the crown, with detailed yearly pairings of queens and kings listed from 1937-38 through 1975-76, including names such as Dorothy Montagne, Henry Wachtzmann, Thelma Bohiken, Sidney Moore, and many others.

Akron Industrial Development appoints research committee

AIDC met at 6 p.m. Monday with 16 members present to discuss attracting industry. An industrial research committee was formed to aid vice-president Bob Brown in securing prospective industries for Akron. Members named Arlin Milbrodt Roger Oetken Gary Tucker Dick Dirks and Virginia Hartmann. The group will gather data on potential industries promote the town and provide information about Akron’s offerings. Citizens and rural residents are urged to attend the next meeting on Monday Oct 18 for involvement and cooperation.

County Democrats Launch Voter Registration Drive

Plymouth county Democratic headquarters in the Koenig building Le Mars opens as a vigorous registration drive starts for the upcoming election. Volunteers staff hours 9 to 12 and 1 30 to 4 30 weekdays with extended hours near election day. Insufficient Enrollment Postpones HSE Class at Akron High

The Akron high school adult education program postpones the high school equivalency class until second semester due to insufficient enrollment for a fall offering.
