Former Local Couple Wed in Sioux City

A young Sioux City couple tied the knot on September 10 at St Josephs Catholic Church. Miss Nancy Ann Warren daughter of Mrs Rita Warren and Gerald Sylvester Vanderham son of Mrs Madeline Vanderham exchanged vows with Rev. Thomas L Miller officiating. The couple will reside in Sioux City. A reception followed at Arcadia restaurant and a dance in Akron Hagles hall honored the newlyweds.

Plymouth County Soil Conservation District meets in LeMars

The September meeting of the Plymouth County Soil Conservation District Commissioners was held September 28 at the district office in LeMars. New Commissioner Tom Kenny joined as officers and discussions included the Elkhorn No. 2 Watershed near Kingsley and a landowner’s refusal to grant an easement for erosion control. The board passed a resolution to push Little Sioux Works toward completing needed conservation work, with construction hoped to begin in spring 1961.

Iowa congressman Charles B Hoeven bluntly assailed Senator Kennedy on his farm voting history. He cited Kennedy votes from 1952 to 1966 and urged farmers to judge by results. The Book and Thimble Club met September 27 at Mrs. Arvin Finzen’s home with a Scripture reading. October 25 is set to remember Cherokee Hospital patients. Care packages will be sent to South America. Mrs. Nelson urged citizens to aid in curbing pornography to combat juvenile delinquency. The Adventurous Reading list is posted at the Public Library. The program, led by Mrs. W. G. Adama on Artistic Table Setting, featured Mrs. Harvey of Thorpe’s Jewelry in Sioux City, and was well received. On October 2 H. and Mrs. Shoulberg marked their fiftieth wedding anniversary at Immanuel Lutheran parlors with all children present. Mrs. Shoulberg, longtime Club member, received the book Christ and the Fine Arts as a token of appreciation.
