Style Show Showcases New Fall Fashions in Elk Point

The Elk Point American Legion Auxiliary hosts a style show on October 6 at 8 p.m. in the Elk Point Auditorium. About 50 home sewn garments for young adults to mature women are modeled, with some children's wear displayed. Narrator Millie Gubbrud of Alcester will present and garments will be available for close inspection after the show.

Nursing home chatter and visits fill lobby week

Nursing home residents enjoyed games in the lobby on Monday and a Laurel and Hardy film shown Tuesday with coffee and cookies. Numerous visitors from Westfield Akron Le Mars and Sioux City called on residents including Lizzie Haage Flora Cassen and Herman Haage. An embroidery club served sandwiches and coffee before bingo. Autumn themed napkins and place mats complemented the social hour.

Bi-annual Fickbohm reunion held at Alcester

The bi annual Fickbohm reunion occurred Sept 21 at the Alcester city auditorium with about 150 attendees. Marvin Sommervold led the meeting. greetings came from Bertrand Peterson Edgar Peterson and Ruth Hutchins. Attendees ranged from 89 year old Ella Lewison to 10 week old Kristi Akland, with state representation from California Wisconsin Minnesota Iowa Nebraska and South Dakota. The next reunion is planned for two years hence on the third Sunday in September with committees led by Lloyd Fickbohm Marvid Steen Richard Rosegard and Arnold Peterson enduring.

Friendship and Service club marks 25th anniversary in Akron

Akron federated Friendship and Service club celebrated 25 years with a Sunday program at Trinity Lutheran Church. Ruth Mitchell and Lois Nelson founded the group in 1950. current members numbered 30. Past activities included bond issue campaigns, a Christmas Hop fundraiser, a baby contest for playground equipment, library book donations, and a $1,000 donation to Akron Ambulance Service this year.

Santa Claus workshop helps Akron middle school students repair toys

In the first semester of the school year, Akron middle school shop classes run a Santa Claus workshop. Broken toys donated by residents are rebuilt for Christmas delivery to local needy children. Instructor Dan Utesch says students apply normal shop skills to this special toy repair project, with the outcome donated rather than taken home. If you have toys needing magic, the class offers to help.
