Partridge in a Bear Tree wins 1968 Christmas Seal design

William Eisele of Columbus Ohio won the national contest for the 1968 Christmas Seal. His entry borrows from The Twelve Days of Christmas using a partridge in a pear tree motif though a quail serves as the central figure. The design features a golden pear and green leaves on blue and yellow backgrounds signaling world peace and friendship. Perseverance paid off after years of local Call for Artists participation culminating in a national win to lead the 1968 campaign targeting at least 570000 dollars for emphysema research and related education.

Iowa State extension conference reports widespread stalk rot in corn borers and strong soybean yields across eastern Iowa. Mrs Silkebakken Dies. Akron Native Buried in Riverside

Mrs Silkebakken born in Norway on October 22 1899 died in North Miami Beach Florida. Funeral at Schroeder Funeral Home Thursday at 1 00 PM officiated by Rev Equys Maus. Burial at Riverside Cemetery Akron. Survivors include son Karl in North Miami Beach and two grandsons and a great grandson in Florida. Former Akron resident operated a family store and worked as a clerk in the dry goods department.
