Special correspondence from Garland reports Mr and Mrs R E Ball and sons visiting at the Henry Busch home. Walter Heyl and family attended church near Alcester and Ed Lewison and son Howard joined. Mr and Mrs R C Hamilton and Mr and Mrs Wm Skinner traveled to Merrill Iowa for graduation of Miss Marjorie Rush. Ed Lewison sick last week, well wishes. Attendees enjoyed the M and M tent show at Spink. Herman Fickbohm and family visited Ed Lewison and Grandma Fickbohm. Wallace Beeler visited Dick Hamilton. Neighbors hope for sun and warmth to start the corn. Sommervold and Wevik families visited Ed Lewison Sunday.
Union Creek news notes church services on Sunday June 2 with Sunday school at 10 am. Ladies Aid hosts at Luther Hall June 6. Luther League program at Luther Hall June 11. Extension club meets June 10. Albert Anderson had tonsils removed. Residents from Sioux City attended Cemetery day. Various locals attend missionary convention at Beaver Valley. Mrs Valstad suffers paralytic stroke but improving. School year closes with a pupil picnic.
Mr and Mrs Albert Witt with sons Richard and Robert Lee returned home Thursday from Marathon Iowa where Edith Witt completed her graduation. Axel Bay were Ha wardens callers Wednesday. Frank Eden visited John Eden home near Alcester 8 D. Anna Barker and son Walter were Thursday guests in George Fara home. Henry Collman had birthday with neighbors and friends noting it Wednesday. Gert Jacobs shopped Le Mars Saturday. Elmer Philips J A Gabel daughter Lois and Merton Gabel Verna attended the gathering.
The Achievement Day program took place in LeMars on Wednesday. Mrs. Jessie Hirsch has carpenter work underway. Mr. and Mrs. George Fara with son Orland Dean and daughter Mary Ann visited LeMars on Wednesday. Frank Friedrichs assists Fred Hillrichs with work. The F J Gronemeyer home is quarantined for scarlet fever.
Mrs. Russell Sanford helped in Akron hospital, now caring for Mrs. Francis Hoffman and the new baby at the Perry McCorkell home. A niece crowd attended St Catharine's Guild. next meet June 6 at James Tracy Jr. home with Mrs. Tracy hostess. Commencement at Community Hall featured eleven graduates, diplomas by G B Main, with a flute solo and high school boys quartet. Mrs. J E B Robertson visiting from Sioux City. Miss Berg presented pupils at Orpheum theater, Jean Sanford performing tap. Ray McCue became traveling salesman for Sorenson Candy Co. Gerald Hilbink son born in Holland, Michigan hospital. Catherine Seyler is former Mrs. Louis Hilbink.
The corn hog program advances in Iowa though appears slower. County agents expect quicker completion and earlier checks this year as the State Corn Hog Board reviews and approves contracts in Des Moines, reducing county correspondence with Washington. The process mirrors last year until contracts are signed, with tighter checks for accuracy and completeness.
The state board has carried on extensive correspondence with county allotment committees and the Corn Hog Section to correct record forms issued for the 1935 program, as a high share of work was done within the state and wards were directed to Washington.
The District Court of Plymouth County Iowa appointed The First National Bank Akron Iowa as executor of the estate of A B Kenaston deceased. It promises steady employment, promotion prospects, free education, travel, and athletic opportunities while serving worldwide in places such as China, the Philippines, Guam, Panama and the Hawaiian Islands.
A WCCO radio broadcast by Rabbi Gordon on December 23 1934 questioned Christianity and criticized U S Indian policy graft and political self interest. The speaker warned of voting for self gain and urged listeners to consider feeding barley and chick sales as part of a local business pitch.

A 1905 Ida Grove school editor survey found no girls or teachers could swim and 20 percent of boys could. A 30 year later survey shows almost 50 percent of children can swim, though teachers remain less proficient. Nationwide swimming has risen greatly.
