Rates shown for Plymouth Sioux and Woodbury Counties and Union County Iowa at six months 1.26 and per year 2.50. Elsewhere 3.00 per year. The notice sets price tiers and geographic applicability for subscriptions.
Westfield School study group set for May 28 at 8 p.m. PTA’s May 13 meeting elected new officers for 1968 69. Baked goods sale by high school students raised funds. PTA awarded a $1000 scholarship to Mary Blu. Treasury remains over 8100 for future MAP. Social attendees included Mrs. Albert Mahaney and Mrs. Doug Hogenrief of Sioux City.
In Westfield and nearby towns, numerous families hosted dinners and visits through May. Relatives from Sioux City Slayton Des Moines Akron and Houston joined celebrations for Mother's Day graduations and church activities. Community groups met for club lessons and aid projects while planning summer events.
Mr and Mrs M Puhl return from two week visit with daughter and family in Jackson Nebraska. Gary Meller of Webster City weekend at parents home. Sunday visit with grandparents. Various dinners gatherings noted including Mothers Day at multiple homes. Local residents attend church and baccalaureate. Patronize your home town merchants.
Akron library lists numerous new titles across genres including Tolstoy biography by Henry Troyat, Hunters Green, plovers of the Mississippi by Timbe Timbey, So Long At the Fair by Jane Vermandel, The Spy by James Cooper, and replacements of classics such as The Black Arrow, The Three Musketeers, and The Hunchback of Notre Dame. Also featured are contemporary thrillers and memoirs including Lizzie Borden and Donbas, plus design guidance from Edith Head and a Perry Mason mystery.
A list of children's and young adult titles is presented, including Steady by Antu Emery as a sequel to Senior Year, The Melendy Family by Elizabeth Enright, His Enemy His Friend by John R Tunis, A Handful of Thieves by Nina Bawden, and many others. Readers age ten to fourteen are addressed with brief praise and notes on themes, characters, or storylines.
Plymouth County Farm Bureau women met May 6 for a monthly committee meeting. Doris Wright opened with devotions and poems. Daryl Steinkamp discussed land evaluation tax and protest options. Noreen Harneck named alternate for the Iowa Farm Bureau Women scholarship. plans for a one day tour discussed.
The Home Culture Club held its Spring Luncheon on Tuesday May 14 at Castle Inn City. Alice Willer identified the program as concluded and noted a return in September. The group spent the afternoon at the Sioux City Art Center.
A large crowd attended the annual memorial service at Pleasant Hill Chapel in Spink Township on Sunday May 1. Arlo Somnerveld Sioux Falls spoke on the God given privilege of free enterprise and urged vigilance. Rev Davi Roy read scripture and led opening prayer. Linda Hanson and Mya Darrel Jolson sang. audience joined in hymns with volunteers on a reed organ. Flowers from Naomi Schmeiderheinze’s garden decorated the chapel. Afterward the group visited the cemetery for veteran graves flags, then lunch and fellowship.
Officials announce a petition by Iowa Public Service Company to franchise an electric transmission line in Plymouth County Iowa. The route begins in Section 33 Township 91 North Range 45 West and runs east along highway margins. Objections must be filed within 20 days after second publication with the Iowa State Commerce Commission.
Probate in Plymouth County Iowa confirms the last will of Herman Reents dated 1956 and appoints executors Louis Frericlis Arla Ruzell. Creditors must file claims with the district court within six months. otherwise they are barred. Published in The Akron Register-Tribune May 23 and 30.
