Byron Godbersen of Mid west Industries spoke at Western Iowa Tech Community College on May 9 as two Akron residents received their degrees. Kurt Appley earned an AAS in mechanical drafting and design while Lawrence G. Stibral earned a diploma in data processing programming for completing one and two year courses respectively.
Ladies of the Akron Nursing Home hosted a Sunday afternoon Mother's Day Tea for roughly one hundred attendees. Guests included residents' daughters, daughters-in-law, granddaughters, sisters, and special friends and families. Several visits from Westfield and Le Mars residents accompanied the event and bingo with Anna Circle of Immanuel Lutheran Church was planned.
Westfield updates note visits by Audubon and Le Mars residents to local families and dinners in Akron and Sioux City. Mark Kamradt remains in critical condition at St. Vincent Hospital. Also recalled is the May 2 death of Leslie R. Ross of Akron, with services in Omaha and survivors including a large family.
Chatsworth residents hosted and visited relatives and friends across Hawarden, Sioux City, Le Mars, and nearby towns. Family gatherings spanned birthdays, anniversaries, and church events with numerous callers from South Dakota and Iowa towns, plus thanks extended to St Lukes staff and Rev Roy.
Dr Frank J Stodden a longtime Sioux City physician aged 79 died Sunday May 5 at a Wheat Ridge Colorado nursing home Survivors include his widow three sons one daughter 17 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren Services and burial were held Thursday May 9 in the Denver area Mrs Doris Lorenzen of Akron is among survivors The Akron Register Tribune notes a wedding line promotion offering attendant gifts and wedding supplies.
Rev. William Hoyt of Big Springs Baptist Church resigns after five years to become Senior Pastor at Spring Lake Park Baptist Church in suburban Minneapolis Minnesota. He began service in 1969 and chaired regional boards while active in denominational work. He and his wife Gwyn and sons Sean and Chad move by June first.

Akron firefighters responded to a trailer home blaze at Welton Barr's residence at 3:15 pm on Thursday. A gas stove installation sparked a small fire, causing minor damage to one wall while the trailer sat on the lot owned by Mrs. Wedmark.
The Book and Thimble Club met May 7 at Marge Snater's home with 18 members and co hosts Esther Ferguson and Lorna Easton. A High School Home Economics class staged a style show and Mrs Snater gave a reading on the Elements of Joy. Donna Lucken retired as president and installed new officers Dorothy Finzen, Lorna Easton, Penny Bryant, and Ruth Millard, with adjournment until September.
Orville H. Welch, 58, Akron, died May 7 in a Vermillion South Dakota hospital. Services were held May 10 at Brule Creek Lutheran Church near Elk Point. Burial followed at the church cemetery. He was born July 11, 1915 in Union County, South Carolina, and farmed there most of his life. He married Hilda Hansen in 1940 at Alcona. Survivors include his widow and two sons, Orris and Clayton.

The Senior Citizens club met Monday May 6 at 1 30 with President Lewison presiding and 52 members present. Minutes were read and business handled. Eunice Woodberg of Sioux City spoke on ageing. Mr Mortensen and students provided band music. After games and cards, lunch was served before departure.
