Easter Seal Society drives funds for Iowa handicapped relief

Mrs. W. G. Bolser Plymouth County Chairman reports the Easter Seal Campaign has raised 2220.25 for therapy equipment and services for handicapped children and adults. Ninety percent stays in Iowa, ten percent aids the national society and research. Residents urged to return envelopes to Box 402 Le Mars with the call to help fight the war against crippling.

Farm Bureau Seeks Union County Outstanding Young Farmer

Union County Farm Bureau opens entries for the 1971 Outstanding Young Farmer Rancher Award. Eligibility requires ages 18 to 31 in 1971, Farm Bureau membership, primary income from farming or ranching, and no prior year win. Local winner advances to state contest with state winner announced at the S Dake Farm Bureau Convention in Huron in November. The SD winner goes to the national contest in Chicago in December.

Old Savings Bonds and Freedom Shares Extended

Gordon L. Mennen, LeMars, volunteers county savings bonds chairman, urges Plymouth county residents that all outstanding Series E and H savings bonds and all Freedom Shares continue to earn interest after Treasury action. Ten year extensions apply to Series E bonds bought 1941–1957 and Series II bonds issued 1952–1957, plus Freedom Shares sold 1967–1970. Extensions give prevailing rate during extension, currently 5 percent. Owners may still defer Federal taxes and exchange E bonds for current-income H bonds during extension.
