Pork Producers Seek Self-Help Fund Through Legislation

The Iowa Pork Producers Association backs SF 622 to allow a voluntary deduction from commodity sales for promotion. McNutt, president, says the plan has broad support among major farm groups and would fund advertising and marketing while letting noncontributing producers opt out. A referendum would decide participation.

Bake Week and Classroom News from Mrs McCormick Visit

Mrs McCormick visited our room bringing new books. Students learned rope making with baling twine and upper grades diagram sentences. Seventh grade works on percentage problems. Bake Week features two boys baking a white cake. The ARC meets Wednesday evening May 17, 1967 at the new elementary building. Children will present a program and everyone is welcome.

Reading and social studies progress in first grade

The class reports steady weekly growth with new reading challenges including blends vowels and beginnings and endings. Social studies covers On Country topics with focus on presidents water land earth and the United States. A map activity includes California Florida Texas and nearby states. Students practice telling time and writing numbers to 150.

Second Grade News Highlights in Reading and Science

Miriam's group nears completion of a basic reader then moves to Reader's Digest skillbuilders. Heat unit in science promises many experiments. Language lessons cover introductions and telephone use. Students dramatize stories like Three Little Pigs Billy Goats Gruff and Little Red Riding Hood. Puppet show planned. Cursive alphabet letters practiced and capital letters emphasized. In May three birthdays will be celebrated James Tim and Greg with a birthday cheer.

3B News Learning Threads Across Classes

In arithmetic students practice multiplication and division with focus on fact fluency. Science unit Plant and Animal Communities explores interdependence in ecosystems. Language centers on reading books and writing reports for the bulletin board. Social studies covers Indians of long ago and today.

Fifth and Sixth Grade Science Update on Teeth Eyes and Guppies

Fifth graders finished a unit on the human body studying teeth including incisors canines bicuspids and molars and tooth structure enamel cementum dentin pulp root and crown. Sixth graders explored senses eye ear and skin with colorful charts and a focus on learning mind and emotions. Over the weekend the aquarium gained about 20 new guppies with male rainbow guppies becoming more colorful.

Reading Class Performs Prince and the Pauper

The Reading class acted out the Prince and the Pauper this week with good effort by the fourth grade properties committee. Sixth graders finish Canada and prepare an Iowa research project while sixth graders Wanda Blomberg Wendi Johnson Linda Johnson Martin Harris and Valerie Small earned art ribbons.
