Washington dispatch reports actor Smith Russell died at the Richmond hotel in this city Monday afternoon at 2:00 as he battled a prolonged illness. Born in Brunswick Missouri, he lived in Minneapolis for fifteen years, leaves a widow and two children, and amassed substantial real estate fortune valued around 2.5 million dollars.
A St. Petersburg dispatch reports 15,000 peasants in Foltava and Kharkoff provinces have sacked eighty estates, looting property while terrorizing the region. Officials are split between weak suppression and harsh punishments as fear grows in nearby towns. Moscow unrest leads the czar to abandon plans to spend time there. Ministers including DeWitte face threats of death amid jeering crowds.
An Oshkosh resident, after a burst of prosperity from a Milwaukee salt stock job, spent $3,000 on rings and gifts and believed he was worth $2,000,000. Michael Gherko, 38, was killed about a hundred feet from the Greek Catholic church during morning services at Freeland. George Smith is jailed, charged with the murder after allegedly entering the church, drawing a blackjack, assaulting trustee Cherko, and firing a pistol as Cherko fled. Priests restrained Smith and held him for police as the service ended in uproar.
Rufo the Ladrone, with 158 officers and men, 12 guns, 140 bolos, 17 spears and limited revolvers and daggers, surrenders near Kenron. Lt. Kennon of the Sixth Infantry reports the collapse of Rufo's faction and predicts wider coilings on the Netron coast as Papa Issio and remnants face pressure. Issio had been a colonel in the insurgent army appointed by Gen. Malvar nine years ago.
A Sunday blaze in Glens Falls caused more than 500000 in damage. Webb Bros clothing store on Glen Street burned, spreading to the Joseph Owley Shirt and Collar Company plant and nearby buildings. The Fowler shirt plant destruction leaves about 800 workers temporarily idle, with insurers unlikely to cover all losses.
A Springfield special reports the Continental Limited on the Wabash Railway ran 180 miles from Tilton to Granite City in 180 minutes with five stops, including engine changes and coal pickup. Actual running time was 2 hours 38 minutes, with leg runs from Manville to Decatur in 71.6 miles at 70 minutes and Decatur to East St. Louis 105 miles in 108 minutes, with multiple station stops.

A. J. Morison of Marengo former treasurer of the Grand Lodge Iowa Odd Fellows received a penitentiary term for embezzling funds from the lodge and an estate where he served as administrator. He is 72 years old and has long been a lodge officer of forty years.
Henry Meyer reports a 14 year old youth was arrested Saturday night in Newton for allegedly murdering his stepfather Praik Lavelleidir and setting the barn remnant on fire. Neighbors found a small one story barn burned. The boy claimed the fire started from a bonfire he built and denied knowing the stepfather was inside. An examination showed two pole-like objects in the debris and authorities say the youth claimed to have played dice with Lavelleidir before the arrest.
Ira Hammond and Maud Stone case ends with a verdict of acquittal after four hours of jury deliberation. The trial centered on an alleged criminal operation leading to Maud Stone's death, with Dr. Orvifond and Dr. Crofford also involved and Crofford sentenced to fourteen years. The venue was Mt Ayr and the ruling drew wide attention without public demonstrations.
Lambertson of Algona returned from the Eastern Star meeting to find his wife dead in their home. Mrs. Lambertson, 60, had heart trouble but appeared in usual health. She was a daughter of Mr Bongey of the Bongey Hotel and had lived in Alsides about twenty years, leaving two daughters and a brother.
