Akron Register-Tribune lists editors Ray A. and Gerald F. Smith and announces subscription rates. Local pricing set at 1.25 for Plymouth Sioux Woodbury and Union counties in Iowa, 2.50 per year, six months 1.25, elsewhere 3.00 per year.
Westfield correspondence recaps baptisms, engagements, and local visits. Families including Buryanek, Conway, Lilly, and Taylor share church, meals, and travels to Elk Point, Sioux City, and Killeen Texas. An engagement announcement, a Congregational Ladies Aid event, and a Home Economics class supper highlight community activity.
Mr and Mrs W i H Postlewait marked their 59th anniversary with a family dinner at their son Roy Postlewaits home near Westfield. Married March 27 1901 in Concord Nebraska the couple later moved to Westfield in 1988. They have a daughter Doris Anderson of Ponca Nebraska and three grandchildren.
Mr and Mrs Verne Heeren express thanks to neighbors and the Akron fire department for their prompt response and services during the home fire last Thursday.
The division of Vocational Education supports programs in schools offering basic instruction to develop skills and work attitudes in skilled trades. Day classes cover electricity auto mechanics machine shop welding electronics while evenings teach carpentry brick laying sheet metal plumbing and more. About 12 400 individuals trained in 1958 1959 in Iowa across these trades and practical nursing and technical education.
Iowa Republican Congressman Charles Hoeven says he is among 56 House members named on Jimmy Hoffa's purge list and expects strong opposition from labor bosses in the upcoming elections. Hoeven notes public support and a group called Committee to Re-elect Hoffa Threatened Congressmen backing his stance and vows not to be intimidated by Hoffa's tactics.
Plymouth county ASC chairman Wm. Schnepf notes every farmer with a soil bank conservation reserve contract must observe acreage allotments and permitted soil bank base crops. Notices were mailed detailing each contract holder’s permitted acreage. those not receiving notice should contact the county ASC office. Exceeding permitted acreage or allotments can trigger loss of rental payments and civil penalties.
Plymouth County Soil Conservation District commissioners approved multiple soil and water conservation farm plans for numerous landowners across Elkhorn Perry and Sioux townships. A regional meeting emphasized agency cooperation, with attendees from Plymouth and neighboring districts and comments on program progress. Also listed are church notices and community announcements from local congregations.

Municipal Judge Donald E O Brien of Sioux City seeks the Democratic nomination for Iowa s 5th congressional district. he would oppose incumbent Chas Hoeven if nominated.
The Bor der Belles 4-H Club met at Iona Hoagland’s home on February 19 1960 with 19 members. Topics included a June style show, rally day officer candidate, and invite from Preston Pearls. Barbara Lundberg spoke on school and dress up accessories. Delores Friske demonstrated sewing fasteners. Pat Rolfes demonstrated patching and mending. 1920s 30s fashion displays by leader Mrs Willer were shared. lunch followed. Ruth Dowling, Reporter.

The Panther Patrol led with the Scout Oath at a March 21 meeting. Iowa Conservation Department official Mr. Newell spoke on local animals and displayed fur pelts including red fox gray fox coyote badger raccoon groundhog Virginia opossum striped skunk spotted prairie skunk fox squirrel and weasel.
A Hawk Patrol program featured a discussion on animals that live in water or near it, including the beaver river otter muskrat and mink. The leader spoke about each animal and answered questions. The meeting ended with the Scout Prayer.
