Akron Gift and Bargain Center features cottontail bunnies while Thorson Drug and McPherson’s showcase Easter supplies. Hardware stores stock grass seed and rakes as GW Market plans a grand reopening.

Locals Mr and Mrs Gerald F Smith returned home Tuesday afternoon after a six weeks vacation at Marco Island Florida En route home they visited Mr and Mrs Emery Tucker at Muscle Shoals Alabama for a few days Mr and Mrs Eldon Small and Grace Small were Sunday evening supper guests in the home of Mr and Mrs Basil Blum at Bronson Iowa
Jerome Adams and his son Eric of Anthon Texas will attend the 1976 Summer Olympics in Montreal. Jerome, a Akron High School graduate and founder of the St Louis Olympiad Marathon, runs 2,500 to 3,000 miles yearly. Eric, running since age four, has clocked up to seven miles and placed well in age group races.
Steven Snow, formerly of Akron, was among students at Sioux Empire College Hawarden named to the dean's list last semester. Dean's list requires a 3.6 GPA or higher for eligibility with 12 or more credit hours. 3.0 to 3.59 earners are on the dean's list, while 3.6+ students make the president's list.
This week's nursing home notes list visits from Alcester, Westfield, Remsen, Sheldon, Akron, Le Mars, and Denver. It mentions birthdays for Margaret Krenz and gatherings with friends, plus bingo, church activities, and social calls among residents and relatives.
Five district contests run March 29 to 31 to select entrants for the state Farm Bureau public speaking contest. Daryl Siebens of Akron will represent Plymouth County at the district event in Spencer March 30. Vernon Winterhof of Aurelia represents Cherokee County. Varel G. Bailey of Anita, Cass County, advances automatically to the state contest May 27 in Des Moines due to no other county winner in his district. The program seeks to surface and develop speakers for agriculture with talks of 9 to 12 minutes for a non farm audience. District prizes are 25, 15, and 5 dollars. state prizes are 250, 150, and 75 dollars.
Mr and Mrs Arthur Gronemeyer of rural Le Mais celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary with an open house Sunday March 28 from 2 to 4 30 p m at St Peter s Lutheran church Brunsville All friends and relatives are invited Their daughter and family Mr and Mrs Stanley Willer Brian Terry and Kimberly host Christine Miller and Mr Gronemeyer wed March 25 1926 at Trinity Lutheran Sioux City The couple farmed in Plymouth county until retiring in 1965
Mr and Mrs James Uithoven of Akron announce the engagement of their daughter Gloria Kay to Patrick Dabney son of Mr and Mrs Charles Dabney of Sioux City Gloria is employed at the Holy Spirit Retirement home and her fiance at IBP They have set May 15 for their wedding day

Mrs. Henry Collmann hosts Colin Collmann and daughter Mela nie, with guests from Hartley and Sioux City visiting patients and relatives. Residents share visits to Homer Neb Hawarden S.D Vermillion Pipestone Hawarden Ireton and Hawarden social circles.
Mrs Marle Bottorff of Packwood nurtures twenty cactus varieties, a hobby she began about three years ago. She summers them outside in sandy soil and moves them to her porch for winter protection.
Members of the Book and Thimble Federated club gathered March 9 at Oma Gassman’s residence with 16 members sharing favorite Iowa beauty spots including areas around Akron. Officers were elected with Lorna Easton president Doris Brundeen vice president Penny Bryant secretary and Ruth Millard treasurer. The group discussed plans for the Le Mars county convention and memorial service participation.
The Akron Senior Citizen club held a 1:30 p.m. meeting on Monday March 15 with 35 members present. After a brief business session members enjoyed cards and games. Jon Harris and Robin Benda entertained with a skit and were thanked, with an invitation to return for more entertainment.
Akron TOPS 893 met March 10 with 13 members present. The group opened with pledges and reports, announced contestants in the Qur contest, and elected Lucille Welch as leader Glenda Hughes as co leader Linda Wren as secretary Jo Moffatt as treasurer. Meeting adjourned after discussing forbidden foods. Judy Klenme served as secretary. Dr A J Eason of Algona retired after 50 years practicing dentistry.
The Sioux Falls municipal band moves indoors for its third annual Fine Arts Month concert on Monday March 22 at 8 p m in the Sioux Falls coliseum. The free program features European and 20th century American works plus a new piece by Floyd McClain of Yankton College and salutes American composers and arrangers.
