Morning worship and Sunday school announced for March 19 at 11 and 10 respectively. Special service March 22 at 8 p.m. with Rev. Lundeen of the Augustana Synod. Local visits report numerous residents from Akron and nearby towns. Amateur contest awards listed. school and church events detailed. flu epidemic noted with improving cases. assorted social visits and local meetings described.
Special Correspondence cites Mrs Maud Knapp and Miss Violet Fry of Akron attending a postponed C E S school, Mrs Frank Helm teaching, John Pike funeral in Sioux City with neighbors pallbearers Homer Banks Cy Knapp Mr Jones Guy Minor Rellen Taylor Larry Webber. Held Bros win Shorthorns at Sioux City stockyards. Wesley Brown sold 25 fat cattle at Sioux City market. Miss Velma Barnett replaces Virginia Tague at Richard Milner home. Miss Klingbiel named demonstration agent for Woodbury county. Roads soft after spring thaw, few farmers travel. Westfield PTA postponed to March 23 due to illness.
Westfield write ups report a motor trip by Mr and Mrs Frank Dennison and Mrs T A Dennison to Geddes South Dakota to visit the L V Gant family and attend an auction sale of surplus stock held last Saturday The Amateur contest Friday evening drew a large crowd with hearty applause from the audience
John Person a long time Hawarden resident died at Hawarden hospital on Monday evening February 20 1930 after a two and a half year battle with diabetes and complications He was born March 19 1860 in Skalstad Varmsland Sweden and was nearly 79 He immigrated to America to Akron then Hawarden where he worked for the Northwestern Railway and farmed south west of Hawarden The family later moved to Spink briefly before returning to a farm southwest of Hawarden In 1910 he bought a farm northwest of Hawarden and remained there until 1930 when he and his wife moved to Hawarden to live with their son in law and daughter Mr and Mrs Glenn Hansen His wife Johanna Christina Harren died December 17 1932.
