Westfield Community School Board Meets in 1968 Sessions

Regular meeting February 3 1968 with all members present. Flax option included in 1968 Farm Diverted Acres plan

Cecil J Kennedy of the Plymouth ASC urges farmers to join the 1968 Feed Grain Program. Flax may be grown on 20 to 50 percent of diverted acres and is subject to soil and wildlife conservation rules. First 20 percent qualifies for corn price support and loans. Substituted crops yield half the diversion payment, with safflower and sunflowers nonpaying. Kennedy notes rising farmer inquiries as signup runs February 6 to March 15, 1968.

Akron school book fair field trip finds over 1000 titles

Library Club members selected more than one thousand paperback books for the Akron School Book Fair during a field trip to Sioux Falls. They visited Anpustaina College and Mikkeloun library, then Washington Senior High, and planned visits for March 26 27 to the Akron school library.

Iowa Schools Move to Provide Elementary Guidance Services

The 1967 Iowa legislature ordered elementary schools to offer guidance services by September 1, 1970, with pilot programs in Cedar Rapids Pleasant Readley and Cedar Rapids districts. Programs are offered at Northern Iowa, Drake, Iowa State, and Iowa City universities, while districts like Waterloo and Marshalltown expand counselor roles. A special education class for ages 14-18 opens in LeMars at 200 Central Avenue N. E. with Miss Foongs Ling Choy teaching, offering job training through projects in woodworking, sewing, and typing and free tuition for up to 17 students.
