Those who helped Miss Norma Jean Kallsen celebrate her birthday Friday evening were Mrs. Lizzie Nannen and sons Harry and Walter and daughter Marie, Mrs. Hannah Anderson and daughter Marion, and son.
Union Creek News reports Sunday services at the Union Creek church at 11 oclock with Sunday school at 10 oclock. Ladies Aid meets at Luther Hall on Thursday March 11 with Mrs Alfred Sommervold as hostess. Notice to qualified electors of the Independent School District of Akron Plymouth County Iowa announces the annual election on March 8 1937 from 12 00 noon to 7 00 pm at the school house first floor second Monday in March. A director will be elected for a three year term to succeed Charles Kanage and Eugene Lias. Dated February 24 1937 secretary W E Mellen. Elk Point Leader Courier reports foundation laid for new 585 hp Diesel engine to be installed in city. Foundation measures 23 by 8 by 7 1 2 feet and contains about 140 tons of concrete poured in 12 hours. Additional prep work required before engine installation.

Waterbury and son in law Frank A Edgar of Sioux City to manage Akron business. Spring marble craze and wild fowl migrations signal season. roads thawing invading gutters threaten basements. Street Commissioner Barrett opens drains to prevent flooding. Marriages: Cephas Baird and Laura D Hall. Edgar F Gilman and Blanche Taylor. TH Squires and Bella Neal. Henry Willer returns from cattle buying trip. A W Edgington in Hawarden for ice cream business prep. Train platform crowded with depot watchers as the train arrives.
A small blaze sparked in the Kendall Hotel basement boiler room, started by soot in a keg. Fire subdued by bucket brigade. no night danger. Also notes a fifteenth birthday surprise for Miss Norah Hall and various local stock shipments and a wagon accident. Asa Harkness Sr. dies in Akron on Feb 29, 1912. Mrs A N Williams resides east of town.
