Otis L. Weber 82 of Westfield died June 20 in a Sioux City hospital after a brief illness. Born May 2, 1885 in Plymouth county, he was past president of the Farmers Union Cooperative of Lown and served as Hancock Township assessor for over 20 years. Survivors: three sons Lisle Sioux City Norman Westfield Chanles Cher elnge and three grandsons. Funeral services were held at W Harry Christy Funeral Home Sioux City with Rev Donald Rohenta officiating. Burial at Lo wan Park Cemetery.
The Soo Valley Enterprise of Westfield in 1907 carried personals ads and fillers. It lists Grover Lilly’s birth details and migration, local business ads, editor as agent for remedies, and a price table for weekly markets. Included are jokes, poetry, fiction, fashion, clippings, and social hour pieces.
Pat Bliss edits the community news despite six young children. The piece lists past correspondents like Mrs. Del Wilson and Camilla Caraway noted for prose and community focus, with Edith Benson and Emma Milner among others.

Navy recruiters announce 4000 openings for men with construction and building trades experience to join the Seabees. Eligibility includes age up to 40, 30 month enlistment, and basic Navy requirements. Recruits attend a four week petty officer indoctrination at Gulfport Mississippi. contact E. A. Final UNICEF Iowa totals for 1966 show 80 846 dollars raised through Trick or Treat and 18 022 boxes of UNICEF Greeting Cards sold by volunteers at game time. The year marks a 22.45 percent rise from 1965 with per capita consumption up to .029. Also noted: a 975 pound purebred hog raised by C E Carpenter of Rural Clarksville.
Eleven Union County 4-H members joined nearly 400 youths from across South Dakota at State 4-H Club Week in Brookings. Ronald Larsen presided at the opening Assembly with keynote speakers including Frank Farrar Attorney General John Store and Gordon Nelson. Union County participants listed: Larsen, Wevik, Stone, Largon, Starm of Beresford, Hendricks of Alcester, Curry, Hanson, Kyte, Schulz, Chicoine of Elk Point.
A new edition of This is the Place Iowa retells Iowa history from earliest tribes to statehood and modern progress. Margaret L. Posten, from Villisca, compiles 91 chapters with travel, government, Native stories, and famed Iowa figures. The 70 photograph rich volume costs $4.60 and is available through book sellers or Iowa State University Press.
A new dairy record pamphlet PM 376 from Iowa State University Extension is available to Iowa dairymen. Lyle Mackey notes its distribution to Dairy Herd Improvement Association supervisors for placement in members records. The pamphlet covers management cutting feeding and sire selection with examples of DHIA records and entry forms for the 4-H Dairy Production Contest due July 1. Sandra Kay Wright, Guthrie Center, was awarded the Mary McMillan scholarship for physical therapy studies.

Courses cover menu planning, sanitation, equipment, nutrition, administration, cost control, and community relations, with advanced and specialized modules on supervision and kitchen planning.
The County Board of Education in LeMars plans to sponsor special education classes for high school boys and girls for the 1967-1968 year. If qualified BA teachers are found, two relocatable classrooms will be rented on the Vocational Trades site. Students will follow 9 work-study programs and be bused from various schools to LeMars. Applications should go to County Superintendent Christine McCormick at the Court House. Fred Simmons aided by bringing in a flathead from the Iowa River this month. the 87 year old fisherman, a longtime Marengo resident, had hoped for such a catch for 80 years.
