Jefferson farmer uses alfalfa to boost yields
Harold Wilcox of Jefferson connects alfalfa to higher production under a 1949 soil conservation plan with Union County district aid. Eight years of corn and small grains alternation with sweet clover, plus stubble mulch tillage and windbreaks, lifted yields from 30–60 bushels to 75–85 bushels for corn and 50–65 for oats and barley.
