Spring Comes to Iowa Towns in Quirky Ways
A humorous Iowa roundup recalls spring arrivals with a driver speeding backward past a stop sign, nails spread on a street to warn traffic, a judge ruling on signs, recurring hydrant failures after storms, and a blind pedestrian struck by a passing car as spring arrives with its usual mischief.

Cattle Prices Seen Downward This Fall By Feeders
T W Fife of the Producers Commission Association at the Sioux City Stock Yards predicts fall stocker and feeder cattle will be cheaper due to higher supplies and tighter credit. Last year feeder cattle averaged 31.58 while fat steers averaged 32.40, with feeders up 10.40 since 1949 and steers up 7.99. Market depends on corn yield, credit conditions, and the size of grass and lower grade slaughter cattle, with cautious buyers planning to replace cattle cheaper than last year.
