National News from Westfield reports Mrs. Roger Banks and others attending a small school organization meeting in Des Moines on Saturday. Various residents hosted and visited at multiple homes Friday through Sunday including the Nelson, Lilly, Harrington, Buryanek, and Henderson households with guests from Sioux City and Elk Point. Ed Nelson and family traveled to Kadoky Tuesday for a funeral.
Westfield's horseshoe team, part of the Iowa South Dakota League with Vermillion Alcester Spink Heresford and Westfield clubs, has won matches against all rivals. In their latest outing they defeated Beresford four straight games.
Fifteen Union County 4 H members attended State 4 H Week in Brookings from March 3 to 8 on the South Dakota State University campus. The convention theme was 4 H Challenges the World. Members served on committees and one was elected District Representative.

Twenty years ago Joyce Harris left for Grinnell Iowa to participate in Hawkeye Girls State at Grinnell College under American Legion Auxiliary sponsorship. A series of June 1948 births followed for Klemme Fletcher Behrens Morse, and weather registered 3.68 inches. Primary road contracts were awarded in Plymouth County while several marriages occurred including Marjorie Harvey to Thomas Clarey Frances Collmann to Arvel Lake Jr Lora Pletcher to Curtin Johnson. H Stryzewski visited Oshkosh with a stop in Pittsburgh for a wedding anniversary of Rev Langholz and his wife.
Mrs Thorson and Mrs Mason with MacDonald Thorson visited relatives in Higlmore 5 D. A daughter was born to Vincent Kelly on June 18 1938 and a daughter to John Winquist on June 7 1938. A six team softball league formed Arkins Bill's Service Grusman's Andy Johnson's R Silverberg and Tuckers begin round one to crown city champion. Family reunion at Mr and Mrs Guy Morehead home honors Dorothy Morehead and Joe Hummel with about 40 guests. Bob Tucker visiting from Sioux Falls Canaries suffers a thumb injury and takes a few vacation days.
In the 1928 Golfer's Magazine Cup finals Chas M Allen captured the silver trophy scoring 92 for 18 holes with a 36 handicap yielding a net 56. Finalists listed include J A Jensen Dr Mattison and Ea Dirks. Additional notes mention birth announcements and local moves in Akron including new residents Verne Bowles and others.
A son was born to Mr and Mrs Grover Jones marking a joyful addition to the family. The birth was announced as a local social note.
On June 19 1918 a gathering of 52 relatives and friends enjoyed a Stone Park picnic honoring Roy Port who will leave with Plymouth county selected men. Akron band began summer street concerts weekly while Lyle Strong Vint Adams and Race Tremaine visited Le Mars to talk with the registration board about U S service. H W Mahood and Jean of Sioux City stayed with Mr and Mrs C G Brady. Rev Mahood en route to France for YMCA service. Cecil Mahood among those in the arity there. Miss Ethel Chase wed Earnest Engelman June 18 1918. Miss Matilda Euston wed Walter Baliven June 19 1918.
Eighty years ago births occurred for a son and daughter to Gust Hein on June 12 1908 and for Bert Port on June 18 1908. Mrs Gee Heyl and children escaped serious injury when a buggy hit a washout. Heyl and the baby bruised though minor and the boy unharmed. Funeral services were held for Herbert Smith age 16 who died June 15 1908. Milbrodt and Kittie Aurendon arrived from Dubuque to visit Geo Hitzemann and Paul Fisher’s home. They planned to file claims in South Dakota. Josie Agnes went to Council Bluffs Iowa for the annual banquet of the wlunni association of St Franc is academy, of which she belonged.

At a June 12 meeting the Akron Community High School principal Robert Hoogeveen resigned to become Sheldon High School principal. Jerome Olson was approved as successor. The board approved the 1968 69 budget with expenditures up about 72 000, payroll increases and two new school buses. Tax millage to drop about 2 percent due to state aid and new district contracts. Estimated county and state funds for 1968 69 total about 87 000 to the County Basic Tax Fund and 123 000 from that fund. The District expects about 138 000 from the State Equalization and County Income Tax funds. Budget procedures now involve coordinating with county districts before approval by the State Budget Review Committee.
The Dirks Frerichs family reunion held Sunday June 1 at the Akron Legion Wall drew 37 attendees. The historian noted births, one death, six marriages, college and graduate school graduations, high school graduations, and several in the armed forces. Photos, letters, and card games filled the afternoon as relatives from Akron and area gathered.
