Johnsons Celebrate Son's Army Service and Illness Update

The Congregational Church dining hall is hosting a gathering Wednesday June 10 for Mr and Mrs Paul Johnson to honor their son Paul, who has been serving with the U S Army in Vietnam and will depart for Kentucky soon. Don Campbell fell ill last Thursday night June 11, was taken to St Joseph hospital ICU and later to the 6th floor for gallbladder attack tests, and returned home Sunday morning.

Mrs Clarence McMahon rites held in Sioux City

Funeral services for Mrs. Clarence McMahon 64 of Sioux City were held at Grace Methodist Church with Rev. Merton Green officiating. Burial followed in Riverside Cemetery Akron. Akron Community Theater to host 24 hour opera house project marathon

Akron Community Theater announces a 24 hour work marathon from 9 a.m. Thursday June 18 1970 to 9 a.m. the next day to advance the seat covering project and showcase the historic opera house. The First National Bank in Hawarden changes name to First State Bank and becomes a state bank under Iowa regulations with immediate effect. 4 H Survey Shows Need for New Clubs and Leaders

A 4-H Expansion survey of 3rd through 8th graders finds 700 definite and 188 maybe interested in joining 4-H, suggesting a demand for about 50 volunteer leaders for new clubs. Union County leads in corn yield with 86 bushels per acre, among notes on safety week and farm accident risk.

Dakota State College honors fall dean’s list students

The College of Arts and Sciences at Dakota State University lists 364 students on the fall semester dean’s list for a 3.25 GPA or better. Daryl Frisk and Linda Carlson, both from Akron, appear on the honor roll. Linda Bernard, daughter of Mr and Mrs Phillip Bernard of Akron, has been admitted to Vincent Hospital School of Nursing in Sioux City Iowa. She will enter the three year nursing diploma program as a freshman in September. Bernard is a graduate of Akron High School.
