Van House Completes Med Fleet Exercise on Trenton
Navy radioman Robert A. Van House, son of Eldon R. Huff of Akron, returned from a Mediterranean deployment aboard the USS Trenton. The crew participated in the Sixth Fleet exercise National Week XXII in the Tyrrhenian and Ionian seas near Sicily and visited Spain, Italy and France. The Trenton, home port Norfolk, is over 570 feet, displaces 16 900 tons, and carries pre loaded landing craft for amphibious operations. Van House joined the Navy in October 1962.

Jim Madsen, formerly of Le Mars, has joined Newton Home Savings and Loan Association as mortgage loan officer. He previously served six years at Des Moines Savings and Loan in roles including branch manager and retirement savings counselor. He helped found Indianola’s Chamber of Commerce and aided Iowa hot air balloon championships in the early 1970s. The Pocahontas native and Le Mars alum produced advertising for KLEM before moving with wife Dixie and daughters June and Lori to Lambs Grove.
