Joy Harrington returned to Omaha after a week with her parents Mr and Mrs Albert Harrington. Ray Dennison accompanied Duke Bogenriet and sons John and Vincent to Sioux Falls for the Bogenriet reunion. Mrs Nels Beaubien rode to Sioux City Tuesday and returned Wednesday. A crowd attended the Ladies Aid meeting at Wayne Lillys Thursday afternoon. The next meeting will be June 23 at the S P Lilly home. Thos Shearer and son visited in Sioux City with Lorraine Shearer accompanying them. Marie Curry of Elk Point visited her aunt Miss Anne Lyle. Myrtle Wester is critically ill at home. Mrs G Masonholder and daughter Alice of Riverside, Sioux City, visited here and Alice plans a motor trip to California. J W Nordman and children returned from Clarksville IA. Nordmans parents joined them home. As You Like Its club will spend Wednesday in Sioux City for luncheon, bridge, and a show. Mrs John Luken spent weekend with son-in-law and daughter at Brunsville. Wm Seyler Jr and family plan to move to Le Mars for road construction work. Nels Beaubien helped at Hurley SD with elevator repair. Edith Gant hosts St Catharines Guild Thursday. M M Spaulding and N Spaulding went to Yankton Sunday for college commencement. Miss Mary Mahan of Yankton visiting A A Martin and M W Conway homes.
Milnerville acquaintances learn Rev. Richard Burrows, pastor of Third Presbyterian, is seriously ill in Mayo hospital Rochester after emergency operation. Wedding dance at Stone Park unites Mr and Mrs James Robison, now of Sioux City. F L G club holds meeting with Beauchene girls. next gathering June 23 with the Sturtevants. Mrs Jessie Hathaway visits relatives before a trip to Huron South Dakota. Ralph Hathaway and family visit Milner home. Richard’s mother joins them. Dale Hunter visits for business. Earl Harrington marriage June 5 celebrated locally. Miss Hasbrooke noted as successful Ridge schools teacher. husband dentistry student in Iowa City. Milnerville contingent attends LeMars eighth grade graduation. Heavy rain delays trip to Sioux City. bridge washed out. Corn slow due to cool damp weather, but fine for small grain.
A heavy rain raised streams in the area with no reported serious damage. Social visits include Harold Cooper and family at Dale Hunter’s farm, while Lee Cooper returned to the city with them. Many Sioux City and Vermillion residents appear in farm, illness, and visiting scenes, along with local music lessons and upcoming family events.
A reporter from Union Creek notes a joyful bridal shower for Wilma Ericson and the subsequent wedding of Wilma Ericson to Arthur Claeys Jr at St. Patrick parsonage Akron. Guests, family, and friends shared meals, gifts, and well wishes before the couple plans to reside in Sioux City.
Westfield Middlings reports Mrs Chas Johnson was summoned to Denver by the death of an aged uncle. Miss Peggy Taylor is improving after a recent operation. Mrs Frank Smith visited Westfield to aid Myrtle in illness. Neighbors extend congratulations to new couple Mr and Mrs Clifford Kilstrom.
Plymouth County American Legion and Auxiliary hosted a May 22 program at Cherokee State Hospital. Forty three veterans were in residence but twenty four attended. about sixty county members joined and toured the facility. Akron's Orville Bengtson and Arden Reemis performed an Edgar Bergen and Charlie McCarthy imitation. Local attendees included Mr. and Mrs. A. B. Lake and children, Mr. and Mrs. John Reemis and sons Russell and Arden.
The Globe Post reports new WPA highway project details from last Thursday. Congressman Vincent F. Har- discusses federal support, funding scope, and expected construction timelines for regional road improvements. Local officials anticipate job creation and improved transit access pending federal approval.
In Washington today a WPA project totaling 53655 dollars was approved for county owned roads in Plymouth County. The improvement program covers roads under the board of supervisors, excluding primary and secondary roads. Headquarters will be in LeMars with county supervisors sponsoring and the county engineer overseeing the project.
The Joli Livewires gathered May 25 at Betty and Joyce Richardson home with nine members progerit. Songs were practiced for Rally Day and guests heard phono graph records. Miss Antisdel HDA attended as a special guest. No business session. games followed by lunch served by hosts Betty and Joyce.
Herman August Engleman 73 of 1107 Marcy street Iowa City died at Mercy hospital Friday night June 8 1938 after a three week illness of hardening of the arteries and complications He was born February 2 1865 in Hanover Germany came to the United States at 16 and lived in Akron before moving to Iowa City. Survived by wife Lizzie Eingleman three sons John Roy Robert two daughters Mabel Ziel Emma Jones 19 grandchildren and five great grandchildren Funeral services were held at 2 pm Monday June 6 at the Cathout funeral chapel Iowa City led by Rev A Proehl.
Burial was held at Oakland Cemetery in Iowa City for a Theran Church member. Relatives traveled long distances including J Hl Engleman and four children from Waterloo Iowa Ethel Engleman Squire and two daughters Myrtle and Mildred from Three Rivers Michigan George Ziel and family from Martville Town Adams family with son and daughter Mrs Anna McFarlan and Mrs Isie Zece completed the attendees rename relationships and locations indicate a local obituary portion.
