Two grandsons of Dale Hunter Lawrence Brown of Des Moines and Lee Cooper of Sioux City left Monday morning on a bicycle trip to Minneapolis to spend a week with aunt Hazel Lindberg. Lawrence arrived Friday night. they’ll camp out and travel about five days. The story and photos appeared in the Sioux City Journal Sunday.

A WPA project begins replacing surveyors corners across Plymouth County with cement markers each half mile on section lines. Engineers appointed by the government lead twenty WPA workers. Five percent of the cost is county borne for markers and transportation. project span is about two years with $25 000 allotted funding.

Birds Common to Iowa Rose-breasted Grosbeak Notes
The Rose-breasted Grosbeak appears in early May. The male is rose-red on the breast with a black head and back, while the female shows browns and white. Nests are built in woodland edge thickets with three to five pale-green eggs. Both parents feed the young over a 14 day period. WPA to Place Cement Markers at All Section Corners
Engineers and assistants will locate and mark section and half section corners across the county. The project doubles marker count from the old system and uses a county truck for transport. Many wooden posts have rotted and been replaced. some corners lack markers. Cement markers will be placed at every corner, even off highway lines in the southwest area where roads do not follow section lines.
