Obituary: Mrs Welton Barr Former Akron Resident

Mildred Pike Barr born April 4 1902 in Akron died May 29 in Fresno California after an extended illness. She married Welton Barr October 2 1922 in Elk Point South Carolina. Survivors include her widower a foster daughter and siblings. Funeral services were held May 31 in California and June 2 in Akron. Interment Riverside Cemetery Akron community offers condolences.

Former Akron girl accepted at UCLA

Colleen Hall daughter of Mr and Mrs Bill Hall of Santa Ana California and former Akron residents graduates Saddle Back High School Santa Ana ranked fourth in a 540 student class and completed 9 college units. She earned a scholarship from the local union and a merit award from the Orange County Pan-Hellenic Association and will attend UCLA to study anthropology with plans to teach at the college level.

Planting Bee Held at Geo Hitzemann Farm

Neighbors and friends hosted a planting bee at George Hitzemann’s farm on May 15 as he recuperates from hospitalization. Six tractors with wheel discs, three minimum till planters, three row planters, and two drugs aided the effort while numerous locals assisted in planting and kitchen duties. The Hitzemann family thanks all who helped during this difficult time.

Cancer crusade holds regular board meeting in Plymouth county

Plymouth county chapter of the American Cancer Society held a regular board meeting at Westmar commons. Mrs. Don Peters presided, education report read by Mrs. M. E. Atkinson, with 15 films and 580 viewers last quarter and 2,000 pamphlets distributed. Total crusade funds reached 6,381 toward a 9,428 goal. 52 percent reports in.
