Seven educators across Iowa were honored in May by the Committee on the Conservation of Hearing for the state of Town for work in hearing clinician programs resource classroom teacher programs and itinerant teacher programs aiding hearing handicapped children in regular classrooms and public schools. Recipients include Paul C. Vance and Louis L. Pickett Des Moines area leaders. Dr. John H. Harris Des Moines Public Schools. Lee Courtnage Black Hawk County. R. Wayne Moocers Waterloo Public Schools. Bill R. Gearheart Cedar Rapids Public Schools. and Dr. Darrel G. Minifie Buena Vista Cherokee Ida Sac Counties. The committee, part of the Iowa State Department of Health since 1957, advises agencies on hearing impairment and serves industry agriculture education and public health. Members represent medical, speech and hearing fields, the State School for the Deaf, the Health and Public Instruction departments. Also noted is that 3,687 school bus drivers from 419 schools completed the first phase of a twelve hour training program over four years.
