U S Demands Peace in Europe After Paris Talks
The United States press's for a European peace and world order following the Paris foreign ministers meet. Byrnes warned that a war risk returns if the Soviets block peace talks while detailing clashes over reparations in Italy and territorial questions in Venezia Giulia. The piece notes U S aims to push UN involvement if talks stall, and covers related economic and military planning. Also mentions postwar college enrollments, GI benefits, and the drive to retool food and production policies under Hoover. Speedster race results at Indianapolis and early trials are briefly cited.

Sales Goal At 200 Billion If Strikes End
CHICAGO. A total of 200 billion dollars in merchandise still could be produced and sold in 1946 if strikes and threats of strikes could be eliminated. Gene Flack, vice president of the National Federation of Sales Executives, declared here recently. As an annual sales goal for coming years, Mr Flack put 140 billion dollars as a satisfactory figure. Such a total would provide 5314 mil lion jobs, he said, enough to make certain that this nation will avoid any possibility of a low mood. Flack asserted that if the engineering and sales abilities of American manufacturers could lift sales to a total of 150 pillions during the war years, certainly America could make another 33 per cent increase.

Hires Vets and War Widows Only Policy Adopted
Commonwealth Aircraft, Inc. began a trial last January of hiring only veterans or war widows, expanding to a permanent policy. Raymond Voyes, president, says 500 veterans work at Valley Stream, with 1,000 more to hire, and 1,500 veterans to join the Port Washington plant. He cites higher production and a 0.5 percent turnover among veterans versus about 34 percent for civilian staff.
