Return of Dead Heroes Aids Families Under Truman Law

The Return of Dead Heroes Veterans' Service Bureau reports new federal rules for repatriating U S war dead from overseas. Families may choose burial at a national cemetery in the United States, with government covering all costs. or burial by next of kin if overseas, with $50 toward local burial and all shipping costs. or burial in a permanent overseas U S military cemetery. First shipments likely after year’s end due to casket shortages. The process will take time as records are verified, with 13 redistribution points, special funeral ships, and military escorts. Estimated cost about $700 per man, borne by the government. The report includes a Q A section on veterans bonuses, dependency discharges, discharge eligibility, dependents’ medical care, and widows’ pensions.
