Westfield District Announces June 30 1969 Election Bond Issue

Death ruling in Mayberry area suicide case

Melvin Ross 42 was found dead at his home two miles east of Burbank South Dakota on May 29. Union County Coroner L W Anderson ruled death a suicide. He born January 16 1927 in Akron Iowa a World War I veteran worked for Dyna Technology in Sioux City. Survived by widow Betty Markel and daughter Carla from first marriage plus two daughters Tammy and Teresa and stepson Regie at home. New Weeds From Flood Waters Warned In Union County

Flood waters may spread weed seeds across the area creating new infestations this year. Watch for patches of leafy spurge and other perennials. Apply 2.4-D ester when small, with follow up as needed. The Union County Weed Board uses a Yellow Flag system to identify Leafy Spurge areas for fall spray.

Funeral held for Mrs Barth Miller at Immanuel Lutheran

Funeral services for 85 year old Mrs Barth Miller were held Thursday May 29 at Immanuel Lutheran Church with Rev David Roy officiating. She died May 26 at Akron hospital after a long illness. Burial followed at Riverside Cemetery. Survivors include three daughters a son a brother four sisters thirteen grandchildren twenty eight great grandchildren and five great great grandchildren.

GED Tests Offered At LeMars High In June

LeMars Senior High School will host General Educational Development tests on June 9 10 and 11 starting at 6:00 p.m. Eligible residents 19 or older without a high school diploma can pursue a High School Equivalency Certificate. Over 60 area residents have earned certificates since January 1968 and many moved to college or better jobs.
