Robert Dean Govig 41 of Corning Town died Monday at Rosary hospital after a brief illness. He inhaled chemicals while working in a field and later developed pneumonia and a blood clot. Survivors include his wife Ramona Small and four children Rose Marie Roger Eugene Richard Gayland Rene Sue, plus two sisters Darlene Cartwright and Lois Petty and three brothers Glen Lewis and Chester. Funeral attendees listed from Le Mars Akron Lawton Sioux City and Villisca. Born September 17 1929 in Montgomery county.

A lightning strike early Sunday destroyed the George Bindner farm barn 14 miles south of the Oyens corner. Mrs. Bindner said the family woke at 5:45 a.m. when a car reported the flames. Ovens fire department could not save the structure which held hay, straw, and a wagon of oats. Heavy rain followed the strike.
Border Bells 4-H held its May meeting at Racine and Ranae Ansel’s home on May 3. Demonstrations covered Pie and Brownies, pledge led by Racine Ansel, roll call on favorite pie, and camp plans for Anita Henrich and Karen Kroksh. An upcoming annual meeting is set for June 14 and a speech contest for June 7. A junior roller skating party occurred May 19 at Rolla-Rama. next meeting at Philips with supper at 6:30.
