Wool and Lamb Promotion Deductions Continue
The 1964 wool and lamb self help promotion program will keep the same deduction rates: 1 cent per pound from shorn wool payments and 6 cents per hundred pounds from liveweight unshorn lamb payments. Payments for wool and lambs sold in 1964 start April 1965. Chairman Cecil Kennedy noted the promotion is run by the American Sheep Producers Council under a National Wool Act supported agreement with the Secretary of Agriculture. The 1962 65 agreement follows a 1962 producer referendum. 1962 marketing year deductions totaled about 2.8 million dollars.

Donald Banks Named County Cooperator of the Month
Donald Banks of Hancock township was named cooperator of the month for July by county commissioners. He and his father began soil conservation efforts in 1957 amid erosion concerns on their Sioux township pasture. Since then Banks helped organize the Gant Creek Watershed, built basin terraces and erosion control structures, and helped launch the Ross Watershed in Hancock township.

A nationwide 18 month reading study will include about 25,000 first graders and over 100 teachers in public schools. Twenty universities and seven state education departments join the U S Office of Education and the State University of Iowa in a joint project starting in the 1964 65 school year with results due in early 1966. Four teaching methods will be tested language experience linguistic phonetic basal and a combination for comparison.
