Bert Rolfe a former resident of Union county Iowa died in a Sioux City hospital last Friday July 24 1953 after a long illness aged 76 years 8 months 9 days Born April 1877 near Akron he lived on a Richland area farm with his parents and later farmed with his brother Earl They moved to Sioux City in 1948 Funeral services were held Monday at Ells Point funeral home with Rev I G Hastad officiating Burial was in Richland Cemetery In another item a barn on the Toben farm southeast of Westfield was struck by lightning during a thunderstorm. the Akron Fire Department was called to the scene.

A July poll by Wallaces' Farmer and Iowa Homestead shows about 25 percent of 1952 corn under government loan or purchase on farms will be resealed, with state storage capacity covering roughly 75 percent. Some counties may require half the corn resealed, others a quarter, and a few none. Highway 3-5 work to start late this fall near LeMars
Construction on the grade and culverts for Highways 3 and 5 west of LeMars is set to begin late this fall after bids were opened for grading and 15 concrete culverts. Estimated work covers 604,457 cubic yards of excavation over about 6.968 miles, with backfill, reclaimed surfacing, and ditching included. A new one cent gas tax funds the project, aiding gravel-road improvements across the county including Nos. 12 and 140.

Iowa led the 48 states in meat production with an estimated farm output over 3 billion pounds and topped all states in cash meat animal sales.
