Shirley A. Johnson of Tucson arrived July 17 to spend a week with her mother Etta Huff and relatives including Eldon Huff. Her sister and brother in law from St Paul joined July 23. Other visitors include the Huff family, Pendrick, Dams, and many neighbors. Jamie Miller celebrated his first birthday with grandparents Bill and Patty Miller and many relatives. Weekend visitors to Jerry Smith’s home included Reynolds family from St Paul. Neil McLane and family visited Bethesda Home in Beresford for Mrs. McLane’s aunt Elizabeth Anderson’s 100th birthday on July 13.
Mr. and Mrs. Gary Van Gelder of Kellogg Iowa welcomed a son born July 5 1976 Bradley Scott weighing 9 pounds 4 ounces Grandparents Homer Dumas Akron Wilbur Van Gelder Merrill and great grandparents Bleil Kingsley Bullington Akron Roak Orange City Hubers Orange City The Ericsons of Santa Ana California visited last week and Mr and Mrs Jon Western of Long Beach California are their son Robert Ericson works for Control Data Mrs Shirley Johnson Tucson Arizona and Mrs Etta Huff visited in Mrs Frank Smiths home Tuesday afternoon
Michael Vrana a Westmar college sophomore will serve as orientation assistant for the freshman class during fall registration from September 5 to 8 at Westmar. He is the son of Charles and Mrs Vrana of Westfield and will lead campus tours assist new students answer questions and help plan social events including the freshman talent show picnics and hours.
A long list of residents and visitors in Westfield and Akron details birthdays, family visits, brid al showers, and social events. Guests from Phoenix, Chicago, Columbus, and Sioux City visit, with group performances, movies, and meals. Residents tour Clydesdale stables in Sioux City.

Boni Johnson of Akron joins about 200 SDSU students completing degree requirements for July graduation at South Dakota State University Brookings. She earned a BA in July with 86 undergraduates and 104 graduates receiving degrees as summer sessions end July 31. Boni is the daughter of Mr and Mrs Arden Johnson.
Marine Private Rellen S. Taylor, son of Mr and Mrs Robert L Taylor of Westfield route 1, has completed an 11 week recruit training cycle at the Marine Corps Recruit Depot in San Diego California. He learned battlefield survival basics, daily routine, standards, physical conditioning, first aid rifle marksmanship and close order drill. The 1975 Westfield Community School graduate joined the Marine Corps in March 1976.

Westmar college in Le Mars opens a program named Janus for older or retired people to live on campus and take courses. It welcomes nontraditional students toward degrees or individual courses with no specific educational background required. An orientation session is planned the first week of September to acquaint participants with college life, with costs described as reasonably affordable to fit fixed incomes. Miss Kathy Jean Oloff and Lawrence H. Schutman of Davenport were married Saturday July 10 at St. Paul Lutheran Church Davenport Iowa. The bride, granddaughter of Mrs Helen Horton of Akron, attends the University of Iowa and works at Jumers Castle Lodge in Bettendorf. The groom, Bradley University graduate with a marketing degree, will reside in Davenport after a Hawaii wedding trip.
Miss Linda Kemner and her sister Mrs. Johnson of Hawarden and Mrs. H Collmann accompanied Mrs. G Moller to Sioux City visiting Mrs. Jack Lake at St Luke's hospital.
