Chatsworth Chats Battle Hawarden in 7 to 5 Victory
A local game saw Chatsworth defeat Hawarden 7 to 5 last Tuesday evening at Chatsworth. The note filled with multiple social calls lists visitors and gatherings at Akron Hawarden Sioux City and surrounding towns including Lake Okoboji and Pipestone with various families hosting meals and paying greetings.
Funeral Services for Christian Rustin of Soldier Iowa
Funeral services for 87 year old Christian Rustin of Soldier Iowa were held July 12 at the Soldier Lutheran Church with Rev. Arnold Mathison officiating. Burial followed in the church cemetery. He died July 9 in a Sioux City hospital after a brief illness. Born October 11, 1834 in Morehead Iowa, he married Julia Norby March 24, 1910 at Soldier. She died in 1962. A retired farmer and rural mail carrier, he was a longtime Soldier Lutheran Church member. Survivors include son Gene of Lawton, daughters Leone Watson of Smithland and Merle Lucken of Akron, a sister Josephine Anderson of Onawa, nine grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren.

Evangel College Springfield announces two area students Ritchie Plummer of Sioux City and Steven Hemmelman of Merrill earned athletic letters with Hemmelman a wrestling sophomore. Iowa State University lists 1 401 students on the spring Deans List. Akron residents Douglas L. Black Richard A. Less and Stuart R. Nylund plus Paulette Haage earned Dean's Honor Roll recognition for 1971 72. Arla Tapper and Marjorie Dykstra, Westmar College seniors, were named to the Dean's Honor Roll for the second semester 1971 72.

The Swinging Tops Club celebrated its fifth anniversary on June 20 at the Castle Inn. A skit by Bette Woskoff entertained, with Joy Dirks, Lorena Gabel, and Jo Moffatt among participants. Seven graduates received corsages and kops charm bracelets. Joy Dirks named most helpful, Lorena Gabel lost the most weight.

The South Dakota Fertilizer Association extends the first annual Corn Growers Yield Contest deadline to July 39 and offers separate irrigated and non irrigated fields with a $3 entry fee per field.
