Well known resident Frank Blum dies after long illness

Frank M. Blum aged 88 years 4 months 25 days died July 6 in a Sioux City hospital after a two month illness. Born February 8 1878 in Sublette Illinois he lived in western Plymouth county and farmed east of Akron. Survived by daughter Mrs Clarence Anderson Faynesville Minnesota and three sons Francis Westfield Peter Bay City Texas Joseph Nogales Arizona a brother Edmund Akron 16 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren Funeral held at St Patrick Church with burial beside his wife in Fremont Nebraska.

Rites Held for Chatsworth Boy Drowned in Lake Madison

Dennis Lee Eide Jr., 6, son of Mr. and Mrs. Sidney B. Eide of Chatsworth, drowned when the boat he rode in with parents capsized during a wind storm on Lake Madison. Though all wore life jackets, his jacket was torn off, and he sank near shore. Body recovered Sunday. Funeral held Wednesday at Schroeder Funeral Home with Pastor Haris Hostager officiating. Interment Riverside Cemetery. Survivors include parents, a brother, a sister Judy Ann, and grandparents Mr. and Mrs. Sidney H. Bide of Chatsworth.

Wedded At Immanuel Church Akron Bride Linda McLane Wed to Charles Burris

Immanuel Lutheran Church Akron Iowa hosted the June 25 wedding of Linda Dawn McLane daughter of Mr and Mrs Neil G McLane Sr to Charles B Burris son of Mr and Mrs Ben B Burris Spearfish South Dakota. They were married by Pastor David J Roy with organist Henning Shoulberg and vocalist Lexy Burkhart. The service featured orange and white gladioli and dahlia decor and a double ring ceremony. The couple will live in Corsica South Dakota where both will teach after graduating from Black Hills State College.

Summer Band Concert at school square on Thursday

The Akron Summer Concert Band directed by Wayne Seipp performs an 8 15 p m Thursday July 14 program on the school square featuring Bob and Rich Brown as vocal duet Alan Hemmingsen on clarinet and a trombone quartet. The band will play marches overtures waltzes polka hymns and a novelty number with Jim Henriksen Jerry Wyeh Sue Gronemeyer and Gordon Part in the trumpet quartet. Last week drew a large crowd with 72 band members present helping set the scene for next week’s soloists Linda Heyl clarinet Jim Henricksen vocal and Nancy Taylor alto sax.

Akron Student Loan Fund Grants for Local Graduates

The Akron Student Loan Fund, created in 1952 by the Book and Thimble Club Rural Home Culture Club and Friendship and Service Club, has awarded thirteen loans to young people. LeMars Band To Play Akron Concert July 21

Akron will host the LeMars Municipal Summer Concert Band next week Thursday at 8 15 p.m. The 70 member group directed by Mr Phil Hanan will follow Akron’s shortened program at 7 45 p.m. The LeMars ensemble draws music lovers from a broad area each Wednesday in LeMars Park.

Akron Girl Joins Alaska Mission Trip Fire and Faith

Karen Talyer, daughter of Mr and Mrs Harvey Taylor, was chosen from seventy applicants to join a 18 member high school youth group for six weeks of church mission work in Alaska. The trip begins July 18 from Cedar Bluffs Nebraska with travel by two station wagons and a boat to Sitka, then by boat and road to Fjords and outposts including Anaktuvuk Pass. The journey showcases rugged living, discipline, and service as youth experience mission life and visit sites from Sitka to Barrow.

Akron Pool Sets Wednesday Adult Night Beginning July 20

The Akron Swimming Pool will offer adult night every Wednesday from 7:00 to 9:00 pm DST starting July 20 and continuing through the season. Adult swimming lessons will also be held on Wednesday evenings, with pool managers available for contact.

Couple Weds at First Baptist Akron in June Ceremony

Former Resident Fred Visnow Dies in California

Old-time friends here regret to learn of the death of former local resident Fred E. Visnow born March 28, 1904 in Akron. He lived in San Francisco for many years and was employed by Booth Canneries until illness. Surviving wife, daughter Judy Crossland in California, brother Maurice, sister Grace Wisnow of Transit Ave. Funeral and burial were in San Francisco Tuesday.
