Hummel reunion at Akron park honors 107 relatives
The 21st annual Hummel reunion was held June 28 at Akron park with 107 relatives and two visitors. A picnic dinner occurred at 1 p.m. President A W Hummel opened the meeting at 8 p.m. Minutes by Sophia Hansen were read, funds collected by Ray Olsen and bills paid. New officers elected: Charles Holzworth president, Neil Johnson vice president, Ray Olsen treasurer, Verda Klapprodt secretary. Oldest present T M Hummel, youngest Michael Eden. Attendees included numerous Hummel family members and spouses, plus related households and several Hansen and Morehead relatives.

Union County Soil Conservation District has joined the national Soil Conservation Awards program run by Goodyear. District chairman George Erickson of Beresford announces that Union County will compete with other districts. judges from SD will pick the state winner for May 1, 1959 to April 30, 1960. The top district and the leading farmer receive an expense-free trip to Wigwam Guest Ranch in Arizona in late 1960.
