Preston Pearls 4-H Club Meets With Talks And Plans

The Preston Pearls 4-H Club held meetings at Mrs Norman Barker and Betty Frerichs homes on May 29 and June 25. Members answered roll calls with prompts about visiting places and clothing care. Talks covered proper storage of garments and cosmetics, with demonstrations on sleeve insertion. Darlis Hillrichs earned a junior red ribbon in the Better Groomed Girls contest and June gatherings included club reading and a planned 4-H picnic at Hawarden on July 14.

Search Underway For Possible TB Cases

A county program, led by Flossie McBride and funded by Christmas seal funds, will locate unknown TB cases. Public health nurses visit families and physicians, conduct tests, and urge tuberculin skin tests followed by chest X rays for reactors. The effort has Plymouth County Medical Society approval and is credited with locating many unknown cases.

Extension Director Arlie A. Pierson of LeMars notes about 50 accident victims yearly in Iowa hay harvesting. The Iowa Farm Safety tractor and machinery committee uses this figure to stress the need for safety during the season.

Hay safety drive urges farmers to prevent harvesting injuries

The Iowa committee reports many hay harvest mishaps involve falls, heavy lifting, and hay choppers. Exten Mon Director Pierson asks Plymouth county farmers to join a safety push as balers caused ten accidents last year plus eighteen other injuries. Hull notes 16 more incidents from general hay work and urges strict adherence to safety rules, including disengaging the power take-off before leaving the tractor. He warns that time savings on sunny days must not compromise safety.

Installation services at Elk Point church begin Sunday July 7 at 9:00 a.m. with Pastor Harry Gregurson. Schedule clinic for crippled children in Cherokee county

The State Services for Crippled Children will hold a seven county field clinic at Cherokee Garfield Grade School on Tuesday July 9 for chronically disabled children under 21. Serving Sioux O'Brien Plymouth Cherokee Buena Vista Ida and Woodbury counties, the program operates from the Iowa State University campus and sends teams to communities yearly. Dr George R Barnes Jr, pediatric professor, directs the service. Clinic officials stress the importance of early evaluation and treatment.

Local Clinics Offer Free Multidiscipline Health Consults

An advance referral of each ballet by a local physician or dentist precedes free clinics. Consultations span pediatrics, orthopedics, pediatric dentistry, speech and hearing, psychology, physical therapy, X ray and laboratory services. Findings are reviewed at SSCC offices and recommendations sent to local physicians. No charge for clinic services.

Miss Jedste Bliem Hothe Demon Demonstration Agent and BF Fi Ket Assistant County Extension Agent will attend a summer school at South Dakota State College from July to July 28. The courses supplement their training for extension work.
