Westfield-Portland Farm Bureau Meeting Report
The Westfield-Portland Ladies' Farm Bureau met at Mrs. Marjorie Willer's home with Mrs. Anna Vreugdenhil in charge. Since reorganizing last November, attendance and township interest have grown. Contributions totaled seven dollars for Akron Nursing Home drapes, four dollars to the scholarship fund, and 2.60 for Pennies for Friendship. A family picnic is planned for August 30 at Akron Park, potluck, 6:30 p.m. Recessed for summer. fall resumption hosted by Mrs. Leo Henrich on September 16.

Linda Kroll and Brenda Boetger demonstrated fruit pie. Barbara Knapp spoke on vegetable selection. A lunch was provided by Verna and Mrs. French.

The Iowa Loss Prevention Institute Des Moines announced a poster campaign to boost safety consciousness among Iowans. Study shows aging N Y MAA recipients often self pay medical bills
State welfare study by W F Rauscher finds 45.8 percent of women and 37.8 percent of men approved for Medical Assistance for the Aged carried health insurance, yet only about one-fifth had medical bills paid mainly from that source. Older recipients more likely to pay out of pocket, with over 90 percent of women covering costs by themselves or others or without care, while 65 to 69 year old men had the highest share of bills paid by public aid and unpaid bills. The study notes varying by age and suggests insurers may not cover total medical costs, prompting questions about future coverage and eligibility.
